Well, you can download PS3 Media Server for the PC, which is a godly awesome media server.

Or you can simply wait when accessing with the PS3. The same thing happened to me - I could only access those four folders, but after turning off the PS3, turning it back on, waiting a while, everything finally clicked. Dunno what it was, but it just took some time is all.

...but my biggest suggestion would be to switch to Windows 7 or XP. Sure, it's still in its Beta phase, but from what I've seen, it's a heck of a lot stabler than Vista. Probably lets you access files more easily, too. I have XP on my computer, and accessing the files only takes a few seconds of loading.

Damn you, Vista...

But yeah. PS3 Media Server, or wait for a while longer. It's up to you.

Guys can anybody help me. I have installed the java media server vers 1.04 but i am gettting buffer issues sometimes with avi files but i have some blueray mkv files that i was hoping to play but the buffer problems are much worse. The movies pause etc and i give up, i also find the media server can be a bit unreliable.

Is there a way i can play these mkv blueray files without some kind of conversion. I have just got the ps3 and i am still learning but its frustrating, i was really looking forward to playing these files as i am not a big fan of watching movies on pc.

Any advice welcome.

i suggest that you download mkv2vob or tsMuxeR (tsMuxeRGUI) with these programs you can convert your mkv files to M2TS or MPEG witch are compatible with the ps3. and media servers usually have this buffering problem. your better off using a flash drive or external hard drive and just store them on an external hard drive itself or onto your ps3 hard drive if you have the space. if your really just out to watch it once then maybe pause the video for 10 minutes while streaming through your media server and that will give it some buffer.

There's also the issue of a) your PC strength and b) your connection strength.

To solve a), the only thing you can do is get a strong enough PC to handle transcoding of large files like those HD files.

To solve b), you'll want to connect your PS3 and PC with an ethernet cable. It'll equal much faster data transfer rates than wireless streaming.

Hope that helps.

Thanks i have used both these progs and as you say they convert to mpeg or m2ts but still i have the buffer issue. If i try through windows media i get only hissing on some of the conversions. AVI files play fine its just my hd files and as i say some play with sound after conversion but just when i think i have cracked it i get freezing . I have also installed the jave media server 1.04 and have the same issue. Have i done something wrong or do you know of another way around this.

I have a newish pc and its got a good spec and a 16meg broadband connection. Also its the mkv2vob prog that converts to mpeg but i get hissing the tsmuxer prog does the job but buffers on screen. My ps3 actually played the hd files i had on my hd without conversion but again buffer issues. Maybe its a transfer poblem rather than a format one, its annoying whatever the issue is. I use the km player to play hd files but i cant find a media share option, if it had the capabilty it would solve the issue i think.

How are you streaming the files? Again, the reason why these files skip seems to be because you're streaming wirelessly. If you connect the two systems with an ethernet cable, the transfer rate will be much, much smoother.

Can the PS3 media server do streaming video from the web or does it have to be a file from the hard drive?

I was just recently pointed to a website called Gotmovies.net. They stream full length films for free. It would be awesome if the PS3 Media Server could handle this site.

Vista sp1 is'nt all that bad once you've toyed around with it.

I'm having problems getting files to be seen by the ps3. All of my wma files can be seen but when I go to settings to enable wma playback I get a DNS error. I'm looking at coping media to the ps3 HDD for my kids. It would save on disc. I read that the ps3 likes mpeg and mp4-ps3 i've converted to everything and it still does'nt see the files. I guess I need to try just plugging up and wait for ever.
What formats work best on the ps3? I assume since you have to enable wma that ps3 likes mp3.

Hey, I've got the PS3 media server installed which I thought it says can decode an iso file but either it can't or I can't get it to work. I've ripped a couple blurays to iso using anydvdhd and when I try to play them on my ps3 it shows no file available or something. I've rebuilt a couple using bd rebuilder and they play great because they are mt2s files. Is there any way to just play the iso file or do I have to mount it first on a virtual drive?
Thanks
