For the new Lite-on drives, you need a key extracter tool to dump the firmware.

I still pull the keys and do the extra step to be safe. Done a ton of liteons from 1.5 to 1.51 and easy a sin.
Bricked 2 but dosflash fixes everything and do that method for liteons now just easier.

extra step to be safe? if anything it is elavating the risk by having to open the drive up again and possibly having an accident and shorting something. Cutting out the probe step saves time and there is no way the key is going to be different if it was read correct the first time.

well I don't knwo if I'd say that it makes it more likely for something to happen. The only way to damage the liteon is to put the power in backwards, and if he did that, then he would do that with our without using a key reader. But stealth is correct, that really is just an unnecessary step. You don't need to do that at all. But then again, if you really want to, and it gives you some peace of mind, then oh well.

i meant damage like accidently drop the probe or something that is connductive on the pcb and cause a short or something. Like some people were doing with the grounding clip putting it too close to sensitive components and causing the board to fry.

I was just privately talking with c4e. We talked about a bunch of stuff, but one thing to say to everyone, is that 1.6 will include more features than just 0800 support for all the drives. The others features have will not be released yet, but know that there will be more, and it will be worth updating the drive.

dang it, im gettin sick of taking my xbox apart between the case mods and fw updates, but c4e never lets us down so i guess i should keep my disasembly tool handy lol.

ok well i have only one question and i understand if it cant be answered just yet.
Will the 0800 support and the support for actually playing the game go hand in hand as in we will not have to flash to 0800 and then back to 1.6 in order to both rip and play with the same drive. I would imagine it would be hard to put both these functions into the same flash but those guys are smart so im crossing my fingers.

I'm slowly getting briefed on everything, but right now, I believe it will go hand in hand. You wouldn't have to switch back from 0800 to ixtreme. If I'm able to release other info later, then I will.
I'm also looking to lend some services to ps3 bluray firmware. We'll see if I get in contact with the groups. But I'm hoping eventually, something will happen with that console

wow that is EXCELLENT. That is the only concern i had about 1.6 and very good news. im sure you already understand what this means guesswho, but for everyone else.... this means we can flash to 1.6 and install a sata passthru to connect the 360 to our PC without taking it apart everytime to hook to the PC. which means we can rip straight from the 360 to pc with no dissasembly required cause we wont have to reflash back and forth YES!!
just saw your ps3 comment. i heard someone figured out how to dump the harddrive and do some things so after that im sure much more progress will start happening on the PS3 front. lets hope it is just intime for god of war 3!!! i have already told my friend that barely uses his PS3 that i am going to steal it from him when god of war 3 is released lol

Like I said, I'm pretty sure that that is how it will work. But I haven't seen anything yet, so we will see.
And for the ps3 comment, the hard drive decryption unfortunately turned out to be a fake. If you've read on that, the drives also have drive keys similar to 360s, but that's a whole seperate topic, so I'll stay off of that.
We mostly discussed ps3 bluray drive fw, only briefly talked about ixtreme.
Here's to hoping that the 0800 does not require reflashing drives. I'm thinking it won't, but I'm not about to start some massive rumor that turns out to be false (and hence lose what credibility I have).

Never take the box apart again! I'm definitely not the first to do this, nor is it the prettiest method, but it works damn well. get a Left angle or shave the end of an SATA cable down and connect it to the Xbox motherboard. The shaving of the plastic end is so that it will fit under the DVD drive. Cut a small hole in the metal shroud and back of plastic Xbox housing. Run the cable out. Plug the free end into an SATA wire that has one end with a male connector, the other female (see link below). Then run that back into the hole to the DVD drive. All you have to do to flash is unplug your male/female connection. Run a wire from the male connector to your PC, flash and plug the Xbox wires back together. No disassembly required. ---Chikn
Here is the SATA wire with one male, one female connector. All you have to do to take the back plate off is remove 2 small screws.

Awesome news, can't wait for 1.6
However, i know it is possible to patch wave 3 releases using Mulleter, but what about doing so in abgx360? I'm on a mac and can't use Mulleter so getting wave 3 to work on 1.5 would be awesome. I've tried patching wave 3 using abgx360 but all i get is that the patch is not yet in the database or something similar.
