Just got my Pioneer 107 a couple of weeks ago and am now discovering the joy ( & pain ! ) of DVD burning...
Upon reading recommendations, I have downloaded and installed DVD Shink and DVD Decrypter onto my PC. I also use ULead Burn software supplied with the Pioneer. I have managed to successfully rip and burn copy 'unprotected' movies using the DVD Shrink and ULead combination...but encounter the following msg when attempting to copy a majority of disks :
"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Copy protection error.
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
How do I resolve this issue? On reading some of the threads in this forum, I thought DVD Shrink is capable of ripping 'copy protected' disks? These same DVD's are successfully ripped using DVD X CopyXpress( but I prefer using DVD Shrink as it enables me to copy the entire content of the original disk )
Also, for some strange reason, I can't use DVD+R media with DVD X CopyXpress as the resultant "successfully burnt" copies are not recognised by my Philips DVD player nor by the Pioneer 107 itself ! I have tried media from at least 3 reputable brands with the same result. Why's this the case? Also, getting dodgy results using DVD-R but at least the disk is recognised. Surprisingly, copies made with '-' and '+' RW media are perfect. Is this result common with DVD X CopyXpress???
Please help ! What am I doing wrong?

I have disabled the default 'burn with Nero' tab in DVD Shrink and this seems to have done the trick !!! Seems to encode the 'copy protected' movie OK now. Ah...the joy of 'trial & error' !
However, I'll be happy if anyone can shed some light on the issues I'm encountering using DVD X CopyXpress...Thanks !

With regards to the Xpress issue, we have a forum just for 321's products where you may get more specific help although there are others here more familiar with Xpress than I am who may pick up this thread.
My only recommendation would be to ditch Express - Shrink is a better program.

I tend to agree with you...my first option is always to use DVD Shrink + Ulead Burn but when that fails, I have to resort to other alternatives !
Are there better alternatives? Also, is there any advantage in switching to Nero6 instead of Ulead Burn?

try ripping with DVD Decrypter, compressing with DVD Shrink to a .ISO file, then burning the .ISO with DVD Decrypter, latest version of each, Shrink is about Beta 5?
Works well for me

Pistolpkn,
Why are you typing in caps? That is like shouting at someone and it is hard to read as well! In addition, it is against the rules of this forum. Please take a moment to read them.
Sounds like you are using crappy media.
I use Nero 6 Ultra for most of my burning. You can use DVD Decrypter with DVD Shrink version 3.1.7b3 or higher to burn with as well.

I use dvdshrink to backup to hard drive as well. I have the full version of Nero 6 ultra, but I use Nero express to burn the files to dvd from my hard drive. This works flawlessly for me every time.

I think that if the burn is failing well into the burn then it is probably not the burner's fault. I would sure check a few other things first.
Have you tried to play a DVD in it? What kind of writer is it and what type and brand of media are you using?
I would get this tool and check your media and burner with it.

Guys: thanks for the advice.......i came to the conclusion that it had to be my new hp dvd writer....took it to Best Buy, and sure enough when the techs checked it, it was bad! I changed over to a new Sony 8x (dual format) and it screams. No problems at all. thanks again

Since I started this all, here I am putting my two cents worth again...
So far DVDs I've burnt using DVD Shrink and Ulead burn plays back perfectly on my Philips DVD player but unable to play them back on my PC using either PowerDVD or Ulead DVD player software.
Do I need to create a DVD image ( using ImgTool ? ) of the DVD Shrink-ed DVD prior to burning? So far, I've only burnt the DVD Shrink-ed video files using Ulead Burn without creating a DVD image...Does this make any difference to playback compatibility?

Also, I haven't actually downloaded ImgTool software as yet...If indeed, I do require this software, which should I be downloading - ImgTool Classic or DVD ImgTool ???
And will ImgTool work with Ulead Burn or will I need to get Nero6 as well?
