Hello Guys,

First of all I would like to appologise for this long post and thank everyone in advance for all support and help...

I have an xbox 360 Elite with a BenQ drive and purchased it with the ixtreme 1.4.1 firmware on it. For obvious reasons I am now wanting to flash to 1.5.1 so I watched tutorials on how to dismantle the 360 on youtube and have been successful. The next step was to buy a CK3 Pro Kit as I got the drive out the xbox.. So I did and after watching tutorial on youtube on how to do this with iprep I though it was an easy step so tried it..

I was on it for hours and just could not detect the drive in JF or iprep 008.8 so I realised it may be because I did not have a VIA 6421 SATA card.. so I purchased installed and still no luck.. not detecting the drive.. in iprep or JF..

It might be worth mentioning I have windows vista 64BIT and I was thinking this may be the reason.. so I went to my cousins house and tried installing the card in his machine and doing same proceedure on his vista 32 bit .. and I could not get the usb to boot into iprep as I did not know his command for his motherboard type so I tried Jungle Flasher and it worked ..

It detected the drive so I place the original firmware in source and the ixtreme 1.5.1 in target. Clicked spoof source to target, then click save to file and saved on desk top .. then I went into the MTKFlash 32 tab and tried to unlock .. after I think it unlocked and it went into Vendor mode.. After this I hit wright but unfortunately the pc froze for some reason so I have to restart windows and my drive would not open afterward when I hit the eject button on the CK3 PRO Kit.. I was very upset and thought I f*ked it all up but readin other forums apparently this is fixable..

Now to the main question.. where do I go from here.. ? what do I do? I have a backup of the ORIGINAL firmware before it was even flashed to the 1.4.1.. please please please .. can you experts out there help me in what to do and how to get this thing up and running..

Many thanks for all your help and sorry for the long post.. Thanks for reading..

you should reflash to the original state and start fresh and flash to 1.5.1 I would use jungle flasher to do it. (tried iprep first and it didnt work for me) ohh and make sure you uninstall the driver for the VIA card (its in the guide on how to do this that comes with JF)

I'm not positive but I think most apps aren't compatible with Vista 64bit. So your best bet is to use iPrep or dos-flash. iPrep and dos-flash is pretty much straight forward. Here is a little tutorial I made for dos-flash. By the way, I always over-write iXtreme firmware when dealing with the BenQ and Samsung, I never restore back to original. Only drive that is recommended to flash back to original is Hitachi. The awesome things about the BenQs is they support bad-flash (which is what happened in your case) and they are very easy to fix.

1. Make a jump drive bootable. I used iPrep and then erased all files off of the jump drive.
2. Took 2 files from dosflash 1.7 (dosflash.exe and dosflash.typ) and put them on the jump drive. Also put my custom firmware for my BenQ drive that has my DVD-key.
3. Boot to jumpdrive and type dosflash.exe
4. Will start to populate and you should see your BenQ drive [might say something like PLDS, VAD6038, or MXXC(MX25L2005)]
5. It might prompt you to resend vendor info, choose yes and then power cycle drive within 1 second. Should return status 0x73. (if already 0x73 you can skip this step)
6. Choose the corresponding number to your SATA port (mine was 6)
7. Type W
8. Type the name of the custom firmware file (example: benq_cfw.bin)
9. Will Erase and then write the custom firmware
10. Enjoy

You can google dos-flash 1.7 and download it or I think x-bins has it.

Hello Leerage,

Thanks for the response.. this made sense so I thought I will try it.. this is what I did ..:

1 - made a bootable flash drive on my 4GB usb stick in iprep. then I delete all the files and put the dosflash.exe and the dosflash.typ from the DosFlash16 folder.
-
2- I opened Jungle Flashed and source target my save original BENOFW.bin and target istreme 1.5.1 then I clicked spoof and then save the Benq_CFW.bin and placed that onto the usb flash drive so now I have the only 3 files on the flash drive and I boot up to the flash drive (usb stick)
-
3 - Now here is where it all goes wrong.. when I type dosflash.exe it gives me a list of ports but my BENQ drive is still yet again NOT DETECTABLE (so annoying) so what I did was take the SATA cable from the Via 6241 card and plug into my mother board Sata and still the same .. not detecting...
-
4 - My CK3 Pro kit has the blue light on by the way and not red
-
5 - After a few tries it then gives me an error and says :

"an internal stack overflow has caused this session to be halted. cahnge the STACK setting in your config.sys file and then try again"
-
6 - Please also remember as previousley mentioned I believe where I messed up in my previous attempt this afternoon with Jungle Flasher .. I don't think I have any firmware on the BenQ , hence the tray not opening when pressing eject.. also just to mention when I open Jungle Flasher and the drive is on this weird thing happens where my system freezes for 10 seconds then back to normal for 2 secs then freezes again for 10 secs.. etc until I turn the BENQ off..

I am in deeeeeeeeeeep trouble mate aren't I lol.. I have been dealing with this for 4 days now.. my wife is so pissed off for always being on the darn benq problem :)

I erased the firmware on my BenQ and now it wont eject with the CK3 Pro kit. I have tried so many things but its not recognising the drive in iprep.. Do you think its because I am running Vista 64BIT? has this got anything to do with it?

Please help out this is driving me crazy..

Sounds like you have your information properly spoofed and are good to go there. If your BenQ drive isn't being detected in dos-flash, one thing you could try is going into your BIOS, and disabling any kind of raid function. Not quite for sure if it is going to be specifically for your onboard sata or not, but you will want it to be in compatibility mode. Most of the time they are in enhanced mode.

Since you can't boot on your cousins system, try to write with Jungle Flasher again. Make sure any other major running processes are closed and only JF is running.

Also for a freezing issue in JF, go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers are remove the viamraid.sys file. Go ahead and keep the file, just remove it from that folder and reboot. Then try flashing with JF again.

do you have the port io installed. its my understanding that port io cannot be installed on vista 64 at least that was my problem with xp 64 and had to use xp 32bit. Once i did that and removed the drivers it works like a champ now.

Hello, thanks for reply.. yeah I have the vista 64Bit and this is probably why I can not detect my Benq on the via 6421 card as i can not install the PortI/O32 on my system .. the thing is once I get this up and running and install 32bit vista on another HDD, then on Jungle Fasher what is the actual steps I need to take? Do I just load the Original firmware in the source and the ixtreme in target then spoof it and then save and then go to the MTK tab find the drive and just hit "write"? or do I hit "unlock" etc.. please can I have some guidance regarding this as I am kinda lost.. thanks

Hey Leerage,

thanks for your advice.. I have 2 options..
1 - I go back to my cousins house and rigg it all up agai n and delete that file to prevent JF from freezing and try doint it again.. but please can you tell me what I need to do step by step in JF as I do not have any firmware on the drive..
-
2 - I buy a cheap sata HDD something like 40GB or 60GB .. install XP on it and do try doing it this way and I can keep the drive unconnected after this is done for any future firmware flashes? as I think this will be easier than re formatting the whole pc and will just take a lot of time..

What do you think is the better option? Also whats the step by step what I need to do in JF now that I have now firmware? thanks bro.. :)

You could run a dual boot setup and boot into win xp 32bit when you would like to flash. As for getting your BenQ drive up and going again, once you have Jungle Flasher opened up, you should be on the Firmware tool 32 tab. Go ahead and load your custom iXtreme firmware file into the Target spot. Then go ahead and go over to the MTK Flash tab. Click "Device ID/ Intro" and it should prompt you to power cycle the drive within 1 second, do so and it should display the flash chip properties. Vendor mode for BenQs is status 0x73. At this point you can go ahead and click write and JF will prompt you that info hasn't been spoofed(this is just a security warning) and go ahead and continue. Hopefully at that point it shouldn't freeze and complete successfully. Once it is verified, click Outro / ATA Reset. Power your drive off and put it back into your xbox to see if the flash took.

Hey Leerage,

that is great advice.. thank you so much for this.. I will try the dual boot as my C: drive is already patitioned and will install windows xp on the partition .. this will save me from buying a new HDD.. However when I tried that last night I kept on getting "the blue screen of death" afer the xp cd installed temp files before asking me where to install xp..

I am only gussing this to be because I have 8GB of Ram in the computer and its possible that it does not support it .. thats why.. so I will reduce it to 1GB and see what happens..

Also one more question: When I do the power cycle thing in JF do I need to eject tray and then switch the CK3 Pro kit off and then push it half way , then switch it back on? If I do have to do this then do I press the write button whils the tray is half open or do I close it? This is the real confusing thing for me and probably where I can go wrong.. Also must my light on the CK3 Pro kit be Red or Blue?

Sorry for so many questions but your help is so much appreciated.. Thank you so much.. I will try all this after work tonight.
Thanks :)

I have read the half tray has worked for unlocking the drive. I have never done it though. The method I mentioned was the VCC trick. You don't have to eject the drive. Just plug it into your connectivity kit. Click the Device ID/ Intro button, JF will give you a prompt and click OK. You will see dots go across the screen and at that point, power cycle your drive very quickly and it should display the flash chip properties.

Yes, power cycle means on and off really quick. I believe JF says to do it in within 1 second. If it is longer, it will not unlock the drive.

Blue is the normal mode and red is debug mode. Debug is Mode B for Hitachi drives version 59 and lower.

That sounds like a good idea of installing Windows XP 32bit on a separate hard drive, and then plugging it in when needing to flash drives. I would leave the drive disconnected though when you are using Vista 64bit because you might run into some issues when turning on your system.

All the apps I have used for flashing or creating custom firmware for 360s have worked best on XP 32bit.

Just remember a couple of things when you get your XP 32bit OS going...

1. Remove viamraid.sys so JF won't freeze. Keep the file handy as you will need it if you ever want to copy games using that VIA card.
2. Install the PortIO32 driver

leerage, I used to have the same issues. Until I realized that most of these flashing and soft modding appz are made for XP, not Vista. So if you don't want to install a dual boot system, the other option is to right click on the Jungleflasher icon and select Compatibility mode for Win. XP.

Hello Leerage,

I will be getting my 80GB Seagate HDD tomorrow so I will install XP SP3 on my HDD and JF and iprep etc.. now I will follow the steps as you have advised above however justa few questons to get this straight!

1 - When I open JF, in tab Firmware Tool 32, do I only put the ixtreme 1.5.1 .bin file into the target firmware and then go to the MTK Flash 32 or do I also put the OFW in the source and then spoof the source to target first before I go into the MTK 32 tab?

2 - In the MTK32 tab I understand I need to click on Intro/Device ID to get into vendor mode but as there is not firmware do I press "Erase" first ? If no then when will this erase be used? Also when is BENQ Unlock be used? Will I ever need to use these now or in future?

3 - After I hit the Intro/Device ID button and I need to cycle the drive quickly I do that with the tray closed right? DO I need to do the halfway open trick etc.. and if I do then when and how...

Pleas if you can clarify there I would much appreciate it :)

Many Thanks :)

1. Load original and spoof. This puts the drive key into the 1.51 firmware. Without it the drive will not work with games. If you already have a 1.51 with your key in it you can just load this into target firmware and write. you will get a warning but just continue to write.

2. you do not need to push erase. As it writes it will erase then write. Benq unlock is used for Stock drives.

3. I leave the drive closed, click Intro turn drive off push yes then turn drive on.

Once you have it set-up properly JF is beyond easy! JF puts all the necessary flashing tools into a windows application. So every thing is easily configured and ran. Plus no need to know any dos or restart computer. It is still a beta so just have to work the bugs out to get it all set up on your system.

turn dirve on as soon as you click yes. this will put drive into vendor mode. then you can write and it will verify the write. when done with Benq you push outro. this takes drive out of vendor mode. then just hook back up to xbox and test before you put it all back together. Also if using xbox to power the drive be sure to hook up video cables to xbox. They do not need to be connected to tv just the xbox.
