I am not a noob and I have done Pot calibration many times. My question is for the lite-ons is the calibration done the same way with the same optimal settings. When i flash a drive I usually go ahead and tweak the eye a little. i would like to do that with a lite-on just wanted to be sure its the same. I have searched and mostly just get the old 1.0v TUT.

I have done it on a BenQ drive and was fairly easy. The points where you connect the meter and going left to right instead of up and down like the Sammy and Hitachi. I didn't pay too much attention to a Lite-ON when I had it opened but the lasers looked some what the same. So I am sure you should be able to do a POT calibration to it.

I wonder if the Lite-ONs take the HOP-141B laser as the BenQs do... that would be nice. :)

I guess I could just tear the one I got apart and see what the factory setting is. that should tell me if the settings should be the same as the others. Not tonight though I'll let you know tomm.

ok took one apart. NOT the same as Benq. Looking at drive from the power and SATA end with drive sitting flat the way it would be in xbox. pot on left reads 6.46 and one on right is 0.76 I would assume the 6.46 is the dvd but not sure and not to keen on moving it. I think maybe i should just leave it alone for now. But i would like to hear some input. Also just relized the PCB could not be changed if there was a problem without soldering.

had another lite-on come through that would only read originals and not backups. Usual when I have a drive do this I do a pot calibration and it works fine. Well since this is a lite-on with no tuts out on calibrating them I took another good drive I had and flashed it for them and sent them on their way. Now I had this lite-on I could play with so I tore open another console I had and pulled the key. I then decided to try a pot calibration. this drives dvd pot read 5.3 and so I tried to turn it down but doing the normal clockwise rotation actually turned it up so going counter-clockwise I lowered it to 4.5. Well now it actually seems to work fine. So it looks like the pot calibration can be done just have to go counterclockwise and not use the old standard setting.

Awesome. Glad the Lite-ONs can be calibrated. It is odd, as you said, for a new drive to need calibrated. I just hope the laser eye becomes available like the BenQ laser eye did.

What's the point of adjusting the pot if the game works without doing it?

Only originals worked back-ups would give the open tray error but after calibration now both work fine.

This can happen with any drive. I have found it to be quite common with hitachi's a few Sammies and just one or two Benq. This is the first lite-on I've had to do this to and there are no tutorials for pot calibrating a lite-on. At least none i have found. So I just thought I would do the leg work myself and found out if it was possible. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wanted to know.

You either flashed wrong or did not get the key properly. what exactly does it do when you insert a disc. also you should not be just turning it. you need to use a multimeter.

i've done enough pot tweaking on drives to know when i should stop. i dont just turn.i go nitch by nitch, , i pulled my key multiple times, because i was using a DIY probe. and they were all the same. i' ve erased and flashed twice already. when i dump the files, everything looks fine and the same. i could spoof the fw to another 360 drive i have. to answer your question, when i insert the disc, the laser comes on, and the disc does its initial 1 spin and thats it.

well that means it is not detecting a disc. and whether you have done them before without a multimeter does not mean you are doing correctly. by not knowing what resistance you are setting the drive at you are risking the laser and if it works its longevity would be at risk. You can get a multimeter for like $5 so it really is not worth not using one. Spoofing would be a good way to see if you have the proper key. Also what drive revision is this lite-on?

ok, so i figured out that i do not have a bad key. i just spoofed my sammy drive with my lite on key, and it reads perfectly, both originals and back ups. so i just have to figure out why my lite on wont read anything after even a tweak

Well at least with knowing you have good keys you are making steps in the right direction. You are aware that lite-on drives are adjusted in the opposite direction and different screw than samsungs and hitachi right? check this out.

yeah, i checked that before i tweaked it. i know its counter clockwise. but i was wondering if maybe its the modded firmware thats doing it. this only happened after i had flashed the drive. and i definitely know its not the key. it wont even read originals. im gonna try an older firmware

yes could have been a bad flash if it wont read originals and did before. are you using the 1.6 lite-on repack?

I can only assume you have now a bad laser. I would just order a Benq and spoof it.
