Thanks Fibre,

Im just trying to go through a few things to see what all is oK now after doing the homebrew update and my first 3 coasters being made..

So the wad games are working and I can add and remove them..

I just plugged my USB laptop drive into the Wii and used USB loader to format it and back up Zelda.. that worked and plays from the hard drive so thats ok...

Fingers crossed I get these verbatims and they are better.

Thanks again

If you can play games using the USB backup loader thats great i did mine last night using the ver 1.1 games load so much faster..you might not need the DVD if you can trasfer the ISO directly to the drive (I have not done yet).

Hi Fibre,

Yep I was just thinking that there I just need to think where to get a new drive for my girlfriends laptop now lol

I havent told her ive pinched it and made it unreadable to windows.. :-)

It would be nice to be able to burn to disc and have it working to though as Im unure if Id trust the youngsters in the USB loaders menus they would have it all deleted :-)

Thanks again

As for the risk going to 4.0 firmware. Any application that access the NAND is risky. Installing the cIOS for WiiGator and WAD files are risky.

As long as you follow the guide for 4.0 update that I have linked there should be no issue.

4.0 adds the option to move VC/WiiWare games to SD Card and launch them from there. As well your shop channel etc. etc. will work again.

Thanks larrylje

Well I got a pack of verbatims and have tried one and it ran without a glitch..

It seems ive about done what I initially set out to and be able to back up our games and a bonus I can do it from a hard drive too..

Im off to read up on how to make a back up of an original game ripping it if its possible because even though I have back ups on hard drives I have had hard drives go down in the past so a duplicate backup on disc would be good too if its possible.

There is soo much reading in here...

I think I saw something in the main sticky I will start there..

Thank you all once again..

:-)

Ive just encountered a similar problem with my wii. It was working an hour ago as my young lad was playing on it but since then ive installed dvdx and mplayer. Now when i go to run a back up using gamma, im getting dvd error 349. I dont think its the media as ive tried numerous games and all of them worked before i did this. My firmware is 3.3 and its a softmodded pal. Also before this it had been coming up saying no cios was found. Help, please!!

Try reloading your Cios rev 8 or upgrade to cios Rev 9. as well as you gamma loader. I am not sure if the DVDx you installed is for 3.2 or 3.4. so that could be it. Let me know if this work...

My problems just keep getting bigger!! Now im unable to get the homebrew channel to work. I click on it and press start but all it does is go back to the main wii screen. If that doesnt work, how can i get to install cios8 etc?

Just noticed something else too. When trying to load back up games thru gamma, my ios is now 35 instead of 249 which it was previously. Does that help?

Try removing the SD card, then run again hombrew channel?? what happen? does it still go to main menu??(you should only see bubbles) If that doesn't work then you need your Zelda and start all over again. Maybe the DVDx removes your TP hack.

Ive removed the sd card and the same thing happened. Is doing the tp hack the only way to sort it or is there a last resort before i pull out zelda? Cheers fibre

my point:
The HBC is save internally to you Wii seems got corupted. So the only way to recover is re-install the TP hack and HBC and load the Zelda again. Unlike in APS or WADs just remove and add. It's the heart and brain of the Hack that got corrupted.

Hi i had the same problem as littleduk with the backed up games, i also get dvd error 349. i doubt that it's the app because i've tried my foreign games and they all work fine. i used img burner and burnt at a speed of x4 on a phillips dvd-r disk. is it the disk i'm using and if so should i get verbatim.

Hi =maazmania,

Use Verbatims -r

When you soft mod as with the xbox you must burn on very high quality discs, If you have a hardware mod then it doesnt matter the same.

I have tried all sorts of discs for the wii and have had luck with 1 or 2 cheaper discs when loading the usb loader, but when running through the backup loader verbatim runs 100% and anything else is a gamble and most give me the DVD error you get.

Hi,

I burned at sppex 1X using imgBurn and Id say if your back up loader is playing other games and loading origonals then it will be your media.. sounds like an exact copy of my issue when I started the thread.

I had no verbatims and knew I should use them but chanced it with cheapo dvd-r's not 1 worked.

I have since had 2 of the cheap discs work but it was an experiment and coastered about 20 in the testing process...

As I said I think if you have a hardware chip then its not as important but with soft modding you ned a high quality disk burnt slowly and verbatims seem to be the boys for the job.

Dont take my word for it m8 do a forum search on the word verbatim and see what reads come up.

I have the same thing with xbox360 I must use verbatim or im just making coasters.

How are you making your back up and is it the same DVD error code you get?
