Hey all, New member here, but not new to dvd-rs and computers in general. Here's my problem:

I ripped one of my dvd's with DVDdecrypter, I'm not sure what happened, but I don't think all of the files were ripped. I believe I ripped in IFO mode. This is a foreign film, and I really need the subtitles. I think the original IFO files are damaged or I screwed them up trying to get the subtitles to work. The movie vob files are in perfect shape as I can watch the movie(only in Spanish).

I tried using Ifoedit to create new IFO's for the vob files. It does that, and then when I goto DVD Play, it gives me the error:

*1 out of 3 DVD video streams failed to render properly -subpicture stream
*No valid DVD-VIdeo volume could be located
*The video decoder doesn't produce closed caption data

I can play other dvd's with subtitles in whatever language, so I would think the 3 error in that list isn't the problem. I don't know what the 2nd * means, and I don't know how to fix the first error. Any help?

Some other things i've tried are:
-Correct VOB Unit pointers in VOB files
-Correct original IFO files.

2 possible options are:
Wait till I get the original dvd back from my friend(in 1 week-i'm impatient)
-demux the video and find the subtitles and re-mux(really don't want to do this option)

Any help will be appreciated

Hiya,

If you are sure the VOBS are ok, then there may be a solution.

Needs a bit of handholding though!!!

Are you prepared to go through it (sit on this thread, replying promptly etc)?

Have Fun...

Yes, I can be available whenever(today, Wednesday is best), my AIM is Synthemesk7 if this would be easier. I really will appreciate any help. Oh,and I'm positive the vobs are 100% intact as I can play the whole movie by playing the vob's(just no subtitles that way). But I can see the streams in the vob's using IFOEdit.

Make sure all the VOBs are in the form
VTS_01_x.VOB
where x is a number eg 1, 2, 3 etc.

We do not need anything that ends with _0.VOB

Good,

in the top pane there will be 2 entries.
click (highlight) the lower of the two.

the bottom pane reflects the film structure...

How many audio streams, and what specs?
How many subtitle streams?

ok, this is where the problems begin....

Now in the directory, I have the 5 vob's, a Video_TS.ifo/.bup and VTS_01_0.ifo/.bup.

I double click video_TS.ifo and my dvdsoftware opens(Intervideo WinDvd Platinum) and nothing happens. I click play and it says no valid drive/disc found!. I click on source: "open dvd from folder"--->click on /Test---> and it says "selected folder does not have valid DVD content"

Try renaming \TEST to read VIDEO_TS (must be uppercase).

Run WinDVD.

Select the folder and try.

If it fails then Win DVD is faulty, and may need reinstalling (that is why i use PowerDVD).

If IFOEdit did not throw any errors, then the structure is correct.

It worked!!!!! oh my god!!! yay!
I've been driving myself crazy and all I needed to do was rename the directory. Whew...

Now, the next two issues are as follows:

1.)The subtitles don't have names.
Can I just use IFOEdit and open up vts_01_0.ifo and change the values for each subtitle stream? and then save? or after changing the values should I do getvts sectors again?

2.)The subtitles are blotchy and green and hard to read.
I've seen guides on here and Doom9 about similar problem, should I just refer to them?

OK,

glad we are getting somewhere.

we can change the subtitle colours if you have the original VTS_01_0.IFO handy...

If not, we can pinch it from another DVD...
