Can anyone help me format my old ps3 hdd (as i installed a bigger one) so i can use in a pc or laptop as a spare drive. The pc will not see it. I think i need to format it to NTFS or something I had a look on google but no help.
might be a good idea to hold onto that drive incase the ps3 dies. if you need to send the ps3 in, you will most probably get a refurbished one, with a new hdd (20,40,60,80) and NOT the one you upgraded to.
CAnt remember but I think the hdd s shown in disk management.
If you dont know how to get to there, attach your hdd to the PC, click Start-Control Panal-Administritive Tools-Computer Management and then in the window that pops up click Disk Management from the list of the left.
The drive wont be lit on the top panel, stroll down the bottom panel and look for a drive which is a similar sze to the hdd.
Then right click and format.
But be careful, if your PS3 hdd is 80GB and you also have an 80 GB hdd in your PC make sure not to format the wrong one.
If the drive doesnt appear there then you;ll have to look for a program which will detect it and format it.
PC wont pick it up have got swissknife software but that doesnt pick it up either. After a few days googling i have found the harddrive needs to be formatted in a usb enclosure with swissknife software so am waiting for one to arrive in post.
Hopefully this will sort me out unless anyone knows of another way incase this doesnt work?
Hi thanks for reply but the disk manager did not pick up the harddrive so i could not do the above. I googled and found that the ps3 Hardrive has some sort of security patch on it to stop it being seen in a pc. So i eventually formatted it be putting it as my master harddrive on my pc and installing windows on it. When installing xp It gave me the option to format the harddrive so now it works fine. Thanks
