I am not getting any wifi connection on my ps3 for ydl. I tried several options from my google searches and none are working. Any suggestions? Please nothing too complex. I am just learning the whole process of linux.
I had this problem as well, but I got it fixed. First, you'll have to use Yellow Dog Linux version 5.0 or 5.0.1. I was having wifi problems with YDL version 6.X. It seems version 5.X is the only version that has PS3 wifi support. Others say they've got YDL 6.1 to detect and use PS3's wifi adaptor, but I never was able to.
You can download the YDL 5.0.1 HERE Burn it onto a disc than Install it onto PS3.
After the installation is complete, log in as "ROOT" and upgrade the kernel. To do that, download THIS file.
Extract it and transfer it to Linux desktop (on PS3) via USB or CD.
You'll need to install it by accessing "Gnome Terminal" and inputting these commands:
su - (then Enter)
cd /path/to/CDorUSBkey/ (then Enter)
rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.23-9.ydl5.1.ppc64.rpm (then Enter)
Unfortunately, It never worked for me so what I did was double click on the "kernel-2.6.23-9.ydl5.1.ppc64.rpm" package and the installation process started.
After that, get back onto Gnome Terminal and type:
But again, this didn't work for me.
So what I did was download -> BUILDKBOOT.SH and transferred it into the /etc folder
Reboot Linux and log back in (you can now log back in as USER)...
Now, go to "Network" By clicking the "Menu" button (Blue button) and Applications > Applications > System Tools > System Config > Network.
Click on the "Hardware" tab and delete "Sony PS3 Ethernet Dev".
Go to the "Device" tab and click "New" and "Wireless Connection".
Select "Sony PS3 Ethernet Device" (this will use eth0)
At this point, you'll need to know your "SSID" (Network Name) and your network code (if any). At this moment, only WEP is supported and not WPA.
Set the "Mode" to Auto and type in SSID, the n set "Transmit Rate" to Auto, and type in WEP code (if any) and lastly, select "Automatically obtain IP address settings with DHCP".
If you're router dies not assign IP's to devices automatically (DHCP), then you'll have to configure it manually.
Finally, click "Activate" (the big green check).
If all went well, it will read activate, and you can now browse the net, WIRELESSLY. YAY!!!!!
Well, I tried making it as simple as possible so I hope it fixed the wifi thing. Good luck.
