The internet on my PS3 was working fine until recently. I have changed nothing at all on my PC, router or PS3 and now suddenly the network connection on it is messed up.
I've tried putting it in a DMZ, it was already set like this before when it was fine, but doesnt solve anything.
Also I used to get 70 - 80% Signal strength, now I only get 40 - 50%. I havn't moved my router or my PS3 either.
At first it wouldnt work at all, kept saying DNS error. So I changed the DNS1 and 2 to openDNS numbers - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 and it works a bit, just really really slow.
I've also tried reseting the router to factory defaults and it's still the same. The internet on my PC works fine. Do I have to open any ports for the PS3?

Any ideas? My PS3 is 60GB UK and my router is Linksys WRT54GC.
Thanks.

Why not directly connect your PS3 to the net using the ethernet port on the back and go from there. See if you get better speeds with your PS3 now directly hooked up. My suggestion anyway.

I'd love to do that and would prefer it that way, but the PS3 is upstairs while the Pc is downstairs, and I dont fancy trailing an ethernet cable down the stairs. I gave an ethernet lead to my sister, was about 15M, I'll try and get it back and see how the speed is, but I dont want that as a permanent solution.
I don't understand how the connection was fine one day and screwed the next.

i got 2 possibilities, your router is reaching the end of its lifetime (wireless routers die fast from my experience, about 6 months for the wireless to crap out), or your ISP is just overloaded and slow internet (unless you mean your connection to router is bad but internet itself is fine)

I'll try and get the long ethernet lead I gave my sister back and see if its still crap wired. I hope it's not my router dying, I can't afford a new one at the minute. I bought an antenna for it today and attached it and it made no difference whatsoever and it's definatly compatabile. I can use the internet just about, I'm typing this from my PS3 browser, but it's useless for gaming online or downloading patches and stuff. Signs me out of PSN alot aswell.
When I get the lead back in about 2 days I'll let you know how it went, Im thinking if its better, I may have to trail the lead down the stairs, better than nothing.
Thanks alot for your help so far by the way, I love this site, but hate it in a way because whenever I post on here it means I have a problem :D

Do you live in an apartment? The more wireless junk I added in my house the worse my signal got. Now I'm not in an apartment but I needed to add a range extender for the top floor.

Also have you tried changing the router channel in case there is some type of interference?

No, I live in a 3 story house. There's barely anything in my house thats wireless, just the PS3 and router and there only a floor apart like they have always been and there didn't used to be any problems.
I tried changing the wireless channel aswell but theres no change either. I was going to get Killzone 2 aswell, but I thought whats the point until I get the online sorted.
My sister should be bringing back the ethernet lead later today so I'll see how that goes.

I'm not sure if connecting it directly will help you solve your problem. It will be faster because its a direct connection. Hum...well maybe the router is bad. I've owned a lot of these consumer grade routers and never had a bad one but they are cheap. I usually just upgrade because the technology get better and the range is extended. If you didn't have any changes and there is no one around you that has installed anything wireless then you might want to try a new router. You can always return it.

Also do you have a laptop you can test with. I've done this as well because the router might not be the problem.

No I dont have a Laptop, but I just tested it wired and it's definatly a lot faster, I think the problem with being wireless was because of the very low signal strength, it was going down to 35% in the end. I still don't know why it suddenly started degrading, maybe the wireless is just messed up.
So it looks like im gonna have to tack the long ethernet lead down the stairs and connect that way.
I suppose it'll be a lot more stable this way and the download speed might improve a bit.
Thanks alot for everyones help though. :D Another problem the people on this site has helped me solve.
