I own a 60GB PS3 that i purchased at launch. It used to read any supported disc, then one day, i think after an update (don't remember which one), it appeared to stop reading discs. I restarted the system, but it still wouldn't read ANY disc. Then, I started to play a demo. I pressed the PS button to display the XMB, and to my surprise the blu-ray disc icon appeared there. Now, every time I have to play a game or watch a movie, I have to enter a demo first. It is VERY annoying. What caused this problem? Is there anything I can do to fix it? Thanks!
It shows the characteristics of a bad laser BUT that is clearly not the case because you can still read blurays fine inside a demo. This is intriguing, because I was almost certain that alot these bluray failures were software related and not hardware like everyone else thought. Call Sony up and tell them exactly whats going on and see what they have to say; I'd be interested in seeing if they're aware of it not nessessarily being a hardware issue or not.
