I'm trying to connect my 360 to windows media centre, but it keeps getting this same screen displaying
Quote:
An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this Extender

When i rang up ms they took me through this long process (it included doing something with security certificates [i don't think they knew what they were doing]), and it did not help
My 360 is hooked up to live wireless via an official xbox 360 wireless networking adapter, connected to a motorola sbg900. I also have vista.

I've also done the portforwarding process for the media centre... but it still doesn't work. Has anybody got any suggestions

Wow i was about to post about a problem quite similar xD accept that i am using a wireless bridge between two routers... i followed these instructions and i am actually able to connect to live but am only able to see the extender when i have the second router set up to both the pc "vista 32 bit" and the 360 side by side with a hard Ethernet connection... any help would be appreciated :)

btw im not trying to hijack the thread i just don't want to start a new one and get flamed xD

thanx ahead of time!

Wow, that's confusing... so you've got a pc 1(connected to a wall ethernet plug) and a wireless router 1, that is wirelessy connected to router 2, that connects to pc 2 and xbox 360 with wired

Like this [probably the most confusing this i have ever written]

---- Wire ::::: Wireless

Ethernet---Pc 1+Wireless Router 1:::Wireless Router 2---Pc 2+360

Maybe because the pc powers up router 2... try disconnecting the pc 2 from router 2 and see what happens

your PC (Port 1) your Xbox 360 (Port 2)

And your problem as far as I understood you is that your PC and your Xbox 360 don't see each others in this network?
(Please click on quote to see how I described your network, for some reason the forum kills the spaces.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

ok i have two pc's.. one i hard wired to router A with this router

where as pc-2 is wireless through pci via router A, pc 2 has windows media center/WMP 11 on it.

Router B
is a stand alone for the xbox 360... it has third party firmware flashed to it to act as a wireless bridge which goes to the 360.. i have all the ports forwarded via port forward.coms instructions they are connected to the same network but vista "time ta leave"* will not recognize the freaking 360 in the networking tab unless i take router b and the 360 from my room to the room where pc-2 is and plug the ethernet cables into port 1 "from router b to the 360" and port 2 "from router b to pc-2" while it is still in bride mode xD

line break

i hope you understand what i am trying to say :)

*=a Linux joke ^^

lol, ok, sorry, i thought you were just trying to set up to live lol.

So when you go in to windows media centre on your pc, does it recognise that there is a possible extender of the form of the 360... and the connection fails half way through the test?

I've done like everything possible that i can do. Ms sent me through this like 3 hour long process deleting some security certificates etc, but it still does not work.

BTW with this vista leaving thing, i heard they have released a prototype/trial for the new operating system... hopefully full version will be released soon

By bridge you mean you have one acting as a router and the other acting as an access point. Are both the router and Access point have the same IP scheme? Both subnets the same? Security settings? Also, make sure only one of them has DHCP enabled or you'll get conflicts there. Both wireless G? Why do you want to stream video wirelessly? Wired would work way better and it's not recommended to stream over wireless. But hey, if you have to, then go for it. Check those settings and post back.

yes, by ip scheme do you mean local ip adress if so then no one is 192.168.1.2 and the other is 192.168.0.129, same subnet mask security is disabled for now 'im on a mountain side no one around so dont need wireless encryption' well its not just video, raw internet mms:// addresses, as well as other things..

Why do you have one set to a "0" IP? Doesn't matter if they are on the same IP unless your doing some type of routing redirecting. When it's hooked up wirelessly, can each IP be pinged? Do you have a laptop? Set it up statically and see if you can ping the access point, router and pc. I just don't understand why you have them setup on two different IPs when they should be the same. The proper way to set it up would be:

Pc to router, access point to router, xbox to access point if it can't reach the router (here's lies a problem is DHCP is configured on both). DHCP should auto assign the xbox an IP of whatever the IP scheme of the router is. Is this happening?

i pinged it"192.168.1.5" wich is the ip adress from the status page and i get "reply from 192.168.1.4:destination host unreachable."

do you want me to just take a bunch of screen shots and upload them and send you a pm with the link?

Well there is your problem. Try pinging the router and access point. Change the IP of the 0. address to make it the same as the rest of the network. Seems to me, your network is misconfigured.

How are your pcs configured? The one that is 192.168.1.1, is your access point right? If so, why in the heck do you have 255.255.255.192 for a subnet? The subnet on the router is for the EXTERNAL IP settings only. Local subnet should be 255.255.255.0

Also why is your gateway set to 192.168.1.129 when your router IP is 192.168.1.3?

Why aren't you pointing the gateway at the router?

192.168.1.5 is your xbox?

That may be your whole problem.

Did you make sure DHCP is off? Is it an actual Access Point or are the both routers? Why do you need a router and access point? Is the router not wireless? You should have to staticlly assign any computers. If your ISP is required to do so, then you're lucky. You have a static IP from your ISP? Is this a business? Usually home is DHCP. Anyway, should work like this:

Gateway = IP of your router (DHCP should do this for you)
DNS - In your case should also be IP of your router
IP address - DHCP in router should give you this, no need for static IP on pc side unless you need it for other reasons.

Subnet mask on a class C network is always 255.255.255.0

changing it will limit the network on how many PC's are seen.

Workgroup - Make sure all Pc's are in the same workgroup

This clear?

yes it is off, its a router with wirless and 3rd party firmware flashed to it so i dont have to buy the 100 dollar wireless dongle Microsoft sells. as in a static ip ? they do not require me to do that, at least not that i am aware of xD. yes it is behind a small legal business.

yes, thank you i will try it and post back the results :)

EDIT: i tried to use the ip i log into the main router, the static ip as well on the access point router and i cannot connect to the internet from the computer xD i assume it has something to do with the DHCP mentioned earlier hopefully you can help me :) thank you!

Well, still need to know why you have an access point and router. The router is configured in different ways depending on how your ISP is setup. I would assume if you have it STATIC and the internet works, then it's okay. DHCP is on by default. DHCP basically assigns IP addresses to pcs/devices automattically so there is no need to set them static. You need to pull the access point for now, and get all pcs working on the router and go from there.
