Ok, I've thrown in the towel and am looking for some help. Here is my storyline. My friends Wii started out as 3.3u, I was able to downgrade it to 3.2u, install HBC and BackupLauncher Gamma Channel, everything worked great playing backed up games. However recently he went ahead and updated HBC to 1.0.3 and succumbed to a black screen. I ended up updated his Wii to 4.0u figuring I would run the 4.0u fixes and then HBC 1.0.3 would work, that failed. I updated his FW to 4.0u because on mine I went from 3.2u to 4.0u, ran the fixes, then updated HBC to 1.0.3 and mine works. I figure if I updated his to 4.0u, and ran the patched IOS60, IOSdowngrader and cIOS38 rev13b

I then found the 4.0softmod guide and got HBC 1.0.1 back on. Now this is where I'm stuck, I can't get backups to play anymore. I thought I'd try and start from scratch downgrading to 3.2u again but can't do that. I tried 4.0NoCIOSfix from Yafaze and same result. I was able to downgrade IOS35 and install IOS35WAD but then keeps failing out on installing CIOS7 wad with a -1035 error. I've read through a number of tuts and I'm hoping I have all the files needed but maybe just doing this in the wrong order.

HBC is now 1.0.1 IOS36 v12.22 on a 4.0u system. The error I get when trying to play backup games is read error 324. These same backups work on my wii. Serial of Wii starts with a LU55. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

I found out that I had to upgrade to 4.0 and follow the steps again to get it to work. I had 3.3E.

Everyone that is having issues with freezing when you load a new game needs to install CIOS rev12 or earlier. I personally was getting code dumps often with rev12 and freezing with rev13b. I decided to use rev9 because it was the most stable and I don't have any GH/RB controllers. I've had absolutely zero issues so far with rev9.

You can just download and install, CIOS is automatically overwritten when you install a different version.

I FINALLY got this installed properly (almost) on my 4.0 Wii....I went through the entire guide and the only thing that fails is the CIOSV7 install....but my backups will boot from Backup Launcher so I'm hoping everything will just continue to work fine LOL!

Hey there. I'm having trouble getting past the first step! LOL. I clicked and dragged the contents of both zip files onto a brand new SD card (formatted to FAT). Followed the guide: data management, channels, SD Card....and nothing happens. I don"t get the pop up asking to "load/boot.dol" file like in the video. All files are in the SD root folder. I have a virgin Wii 4.0U system. Am I missing something? Was there something I needed to do so the Wii can read the content of an SD card? Please help.

They are not supposed to be in the "SD Root" folder. Copy all files inside of there and copy them into the root of your sd card.

I may have worded that incorrectly. I meant I clicked and dragged all files to the SD root (I went to My Computer, clicked on my SD card and drug the files there). The root is the first space (for lack of a better way to say it) accessed when you click on the SD card correct?

You are correct. The root is the main portion of the card. Double check to make sure you are using a FAT (FAT or FAT32) formatted SD Card. I would format it again just to make sure.

Here is a screenshot of how your SD card should look

Yeah baby, it worked! Homebrew and Backup channel are up. One issue: I get an error with a couple of games, "error 002". I don't think it's a regional thing as one game is NTSC and the other is PAL. Do you know of a fix/patch for this or could it be a disc issue? I'm using Memorex DVD-R. Thanks a million.

Dreamer - I was having the same problem with my DVD+R discs & went out & bought Sony DVD-R. Been working ever since.

Also, my USB loader wasn't working with Rev 13 & 13B so I had to go back to Rev12 & everything is working perfectly.

Excellent guide, Thanks Larry

ciscowatt - did you perform the "extra steps" as mentioned on page one after installing the homebrew channel and backup launcher?

if not try it up to the gamecube support section if you dont need it. it should get round the "002" error. remember if you do need to do this, format the sd card first or use another one (obviously keep the files on your computer if you need to use them at a later date)

hope this helps

regards

Hey i just bought a wii since I was keeping a look out for a legit cheap softmod and well looks like it has come to pass...but i have some really nooby questions so if people can please just nudge me. I have flashed 360's and modded xbox's so i am fairly confident but there are soooo many diff guides i am getting mucho confused. Ok so i bought a used wii and it is the exploitable serial. I dont have wifi (plan on getting a router next week to do all this) but do have sd card. So i figure i want to use this week to prepare to do this. nwayz my confusion first of all in reading this (screenshots would definitely help i have a dvr check my stuff here: http://www.youtube.com/user/seanp2500 and would be happy to help in anyway i can to get some stills up) is this wii i just got more than likely isnt 4.0 i take it? Does following these steps install 4.0 for me? Or do i have to install 4.0 then follow these steps? Additionally once this mod is done do i allways need a wifi connection to run the backups? Thanks for anyone who reads this and helps me out. Feel free to pm me too. Gonna be doing alot of reading this thing really needs a concise up to date guide that is easy to follow. By the way Larry yours is the best i found so far so dont take to heart. I am probably just new but i am mega confused at the moment.

Cheers...

This guide requires WiFi. If you don't have WiFi then check out this guide HERE. Follow the Offline Downgrade/Upgrade section of the guide.

thanks larry but like i stated in the above i do plan on getting a router (low on funds lol) and if it is more "stable" i definitely rather follow the wifi way. but i am reading the offline link you gave me so thanks...

ok i did some reading and booted the bugger up i am 3.3 so basically i want to get wifi go online and just update it as if i was a standard nintendo user to the current 4.0 firmware? then follow this guide here? Or should i download the nintendo 4.0 firmware from the web? The thing that confused me is i read something about a 4.0e firmware just worried latest firmware patches before i do autoupdate from oem servers...

larry i take it from last post online is not needed to boot wii or gamecube backups once these files are installed?

Now I'm in business! Teegale and motleydud, thanks for your responses. Motleydud, I did install the extra steps and continued to get the "error 002" message. Teegale, I installed the fix you attached to your reply and all backup games work fine except for one. Thanks to you both for your support, much appreciated. This is a great forum. Gotta go play! :)

Hey, I'm having trouble updating to 4.0 via nintendo servers. I'm currently on 3.1U softmodded with HBC installed. I keep getting this message:

Error Code: 32004
An error has occurred. Unable to perform the Wii system update. Visit support.nintendo.com for assistance.
