Install cIOS38_rev13a first.

If you still have issues then update to 4.0 and see if that clears it up.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I followed the softmod guide for my Wii which originally had v3.4 and homebrew installed previously.

I have followed the guide to the letter, updated to 4.0 using the offline method, installed wiigator gamma, installed preloader and everything went well up until the "Next Steps" section of the guide.

I downloaded the files needed on the link and put them on the SD card, then followed the instructions for -

"IOS60PATCH:

Run the Homebrew Channel then select WAD Manager in the Homebrew Channel menu.

Choose IOS249 then SD CARD to mount then select IOS60patched.wad in the list and install it."

I think this went ok as the confirmation came up on the screen but i then followed the instructions for cIOS38_rev13a: (I used WAD method).

I got an error message on this one and had to restart. When I did this, the preloader came up as normal but when i select system menu i now get a screen saying "system files are corrupted please refer to instructions (or something along these lines) and it goes no further. I can select Homebrew channel on the preloader and this opens ok.

Can anyone suggest whats went wrong and is there any way to sort this? I would really appreciate any help on this.

Load Preloader then launch Homebrew Channel. Now reinstall Preloader ,29 again.

Hello again Larry, looks like i have a problem.

As i was following the Ultimate Wii Soft-Mod Guide that you linked here, i began with step number 1, which is running DowngraderIOS35.dol and then IOS35, while i was doing this and specifically while extracting part 7/15, a black screen popped up and there was some kind of error, it was something like this:

##214325322355 occurred!
.
.
.
//Lots of numbers
.
.
.

I tried formating to FAT32 and retrying but each time i try again it says:

"E...

Failed to add title."

What do i do?

I play games for a living.

Hey,

I followed larry's guide and was able to softmod my version 4.0 Wii, with no problems. Thanks heaps! I also used the DVD Dump guide to do a backup of one of my Wii games (MySims) using the Wi-Fi method. My question is how perfected the Wii Gator Launcher is at this stage? It was able to launch my backup no problem, however load times were somewhat longer, and a few (not many to be a big problem, just cut scenes mainly) areas of the game showed signs of lagging. The disc drive in the Wii also seemed like it was 'struggling' as it was almost constantly making that clicking sound you sometimes hear. Is this normal, and are there any updates/alternatives to wiigator?

You can check the compatibility list here http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php/Backup_Launcher_v3

0.3 is the latest WiiGator Gamma.
Neogamma is an alternative to WiiGator if you have compatibility issues but it is still based off of the WiiGator Gamma.

Games aren't as fast as with the original discs because reading backups without a modchip is locked to 3x speed. Original games are read at 6x speed.

I do understand why you might be a little worried about how much work the disc drive seems to be doing. Have you heard Call of Duty: World at War? I mean wow.

Finally the best alternative is to get on board the USB Loader train.
It's convenient and it actually loads faster than the original 6x that original discs are read at.

larrylje:Load Preloader then launch Homebrew Channel. Now reinstall Preloader ,29 again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I loaded up homebrew and reinstalled preloader which got the system menu back up and running.

I wanted to finish off the further steps part of the guide so attempted to install IOS60.wad again. This was sucessful and i rebooted the system and once again got the system files error message when trying to load system menu from the preloader screen.

I rebooted the wii to go back and reinstall preloader again through homebrew but this time i get a black screen when the wii is switched on and there is nothing happening!!

Does this mean my wii is now bricked? If it is, is there any way I can get it working again? - I really hope there is :(

You keep bricking because your installing IOS60Patch after you install Preloader. Did I say to reinstall Preloader then run IOS60Patch again?

Did you try holding down reset when turning on the system to boot into Preloader?

Did you update to 4.0 firmware?

Do you have any Game Cube Controllers or Memory Cards inserted into the Wii?

If so unplug them and try again.

Also the exact error message might be more helpful.

I have updated to 4.0 just like you told me and no i don't have any GC Controllers plugged in or Memories inserted, the error message came suddenly so i didn't get the chance to read it, i honestly have no idea what it was other than a number and the word occurred on the right of it and then a bunch of numbers underneath all that, i realize that this isn't helpful Larry, so do you think i should continue running Wad Manager 1.4 and see what happens? or do i format the system? It's your call man.

Edit: I forgot to mention one thing, I am using a Micro SD Adapter for all the files, i hope this is acceptable just as a normal SD Card.

hi, first post

i've been searching around looking to softmod my wii. i've found 2 guides, this one (thanks for the awesome guide by the way) and from a site mikeandheth.com the 2 seem similar except for a couple of spots. i liked what i saw at the other site and i feel i can follow the steps from either site. but i just didn't understand the differences

i have 4.0, and the serial on mine is fine to do the mod on.

i'm basically going for the usb loader hard drive mod (usb loader gx) and i think both sites will offer this.

is one route any better than the other feature-wise?

thank you.

You might have already ran it. So go ahead with the rest of the guide.

I need some help, this guide is very confusing and I don't understand what to do.
I have a non-modded 4.0U Wii. I don't have WiFi and I want to load the games using the Disc Channel. What do I have to do?

I mean, this guide, on the "Things you need"" section says "If you don't have WiFi then try this Offline Downgrade/Upgrade guide HERE" and in the "HBC & WiiGator Backup launcher Gamma Install" section it says:
"Make sure you are on 4.0 firmware.
Go HERE and follow this guide."

Do I have to follow both guides? The first one (Offline Downgrade/Upgrade guide) explains how to install IOS35 and the second guide also explains the same but the steps are different.
Also, the first guide, in step 9 says "[...]If you do not have cIOS installed yet[...]". What cIOS is the guide talking about? The CIOSv7 the second guide says to install?

Then, the guide here says to do some extra steps (IOS60PATCH, cIOS38_rev13a and IOS DOWNGRADER). If I follow the "Offline Downgrade/Upgrade guide" until the step 15 (after installing "preloaderv0.29-cred"), do I have to do these extra steps?

Another thing I don't understand is the part that explains how to run the games from the Disc Channel.
This guide says to install "BootMii" and run IOS Downgrader, AnyRegionChanger 1.1 M5 and Firmware-Updater_4.0 however the "Offline Downgrade/Upgrade guide" says only to install "CIOSCORP WADs".
What steps do I have to follow from those 2 guides?

I'm sorry if this post annoys someone (specially the topic creator) but I think this guide is somewhat poorly written. I mean, it says "go here", "go there" but it doesn't explain what exact steps to follow from each guide.
I'm very lost so I didn't try any steps just in case I mess up and brick my Wii. If someone could tell me what steps to follow from each guide and the order I should follow them, I'd be very grateful.

Lets use our brain a little bit.

You don't have WiFi so what do you think you should do?

What does the guide say to do?

If your still confused and think the guide is poorly written then hit the road and find another guide.

This is the perfect guide and you can't ask for a better one anywhere! This is a lot easier with wifi trust me...

(Offline Downgrade/Upgrade guide) --> Offline = no wifi instructions

"Make sure you are on 4.0 firmware. Go HERE and follow this guide." = wifi instructions

HBC & WiiGator Backup launcher Gamma Install--- do this so you can run backup games through the Backup laucher

Since you are confused, I suggest not to follow the Disc Channel guide as it is not needed and you can run it through the backup Gamma launcher or simply install usb loader.

@larrylje: sorry I'm not a genius at this like you but I have a little advice for you: just because you think something is obviuos for you, it doesn't mean is obvious for everyone. I think this guide sucks since it doesn't explain what to do after finishing doing the steps from the linked guides. After I finish with the Offline Downgrade guide, I'm done or should I continue with the Extra Steps from the guide main post? You could at least write something like "After following the Offline Downgrade guide until step X, you're done/return here and do Y steps" It's just one sentence, it shouldn't be too hard to add it. Well, maybe it's too hard for someone like you after all...
So, if don't want to help me or other people who are lost like me, it's OK, nobody will force you to do that but you don't have to be a moron about it.
And the the next time you star looking down on someone like you are looking down on me now, remember that you didn't write any of those guides you are linking here and you didn't code the tools for making the mod either. You just wrote a lousy post with links to other places, nothing else. You did something a lot of people out there can do as well.
So, why don't you take your own advice, use your brain a little bit, and write YOUR OWN guide?

@edzzz66: thanks, for the advice.

Larry,

I had a virgin 4.0U system, I followed the steps to update and the linked guide to install Homebrew and other... Got through the ios35 and ciosv7 steps. Now I cannot get the CIOS36 to install gives error The homebrew channel did work until i updated it. Nothing worked after that and I reset to factory default. The only thing that will install or run is the downgrader. None of the Steps work at this point.

Any help in getting this to work is appreciated.

@Deniii

Im not trying to stick up for anyone here but if you would of read the whole guide you would of read in the first couple of paragraphs that larry wrote the following......

"This guide will install Homebrew Channel, WiiGator Gamma and cIOS36_rev7 (Do not do the Further Steps part of the linked guide. We will do the further steps below)."

Half of that sentance is in red text as well so that you dont miss it. I would agree that for a noob it is kinda of complicated to follow, but many people have modded there wiis without a problem following this guide. I myself have done about 18 wiis and i still have a hard time with all the new stuff that comes out. So unless you dont wrote a guide of your own, you shouldnt bash others for trying to help.

Im new, so bear with me!
