1 question. I rand the update when IOS38_rev12 was here.
Now I see we are on IOS38_rev13.
What should I do to get to the new version on my Wii? Even though I got it working I did not fully understand what we were doing. Can anyone enlighten me on how to get rev13 up and running? Do I need to downgrade and then upgrade or do I just run it with homebrew chan?
Thanks for the help! And thanks again for the killer guide!
Anyone have the anwser for this? I am looking to go to 13a so conduit plays better

Usually if you're looking for a cIOS all you have to do is type it's whole name into google.
1-3 based on 37
4-10 based on 36
12-13 based on 38
So if you were looking for cIOS 13 it would be cIOS38rev13
If you were looking for 10 it would be cIOS36rev10
And I'm not exactly sure what you mean by play Conduit better.

Hey Larry, a couple pages back i asked about any updates on lu64 and lu65 users? You haven't posted since, but wanted to add a comment.
http://softmii.org/
It says softmii 3 is out now. Apparently that is what lu64/65 users were waiting for. Is this what we needed? Their guide seems way more complicated and out of date than yours.
I want to use the newest cios/patches/fixes etc... your docs seem to mention, but their docs seem to recommend older versions. Totally confused. :)
Could you investigate and possibly use that info to update your knowledge and then upgrade your own guide for us lu64/65 users.
Thanks man!

AMatthews, thanks for the reply however I was not asking where to find it, I was asking how I should go about doing the update.
I installed rev12 2or3 weeks ago with this killer guide. I now see IOS38_rev13 is in the guide.
What I want to accomplish is installing the NEW file on the wii. I am not sure about the propper way to do this.
Should I redo the softmod? Do I just install IOS38_rev13?
Do I just let the network find the file and update?
Thanks for the help.

If you do THIS guide you will be able to play backups from the backup loader channel that you install during the guide.
If you follow THIS guide then the LINKED guide that you pointed out you will also be able to play backups from the standard disc channel.

You are correct sir! Just don't forget you must start by doing the guide in this thread first, then the linked addition to get the discs loading from the disc channel.

Skybolt you just need to download the new softmod pack and copy across cIOS13 to the app folder of the SD card. The just run the cIOS13 from HBC. You don't need to uninstall rev12 as rev13 will overwrite the existing cIOS provided you choose IOS249.
Suggest you do a NAND backup with bootmii before changing cIOS just in case. But I didnt have a problem to upgrade.

This is my first post, though I've been reading here for a while. First and foremost, I want to thank you guys for the helpful posts and tutorials. I've already followed this guide and now have a softmodded Wii and have been using my Wii for pretty much the first time since about February 2007.
Anyway, now to the question. I have my backup of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for GameCube since the original discs are starting to get all scratched up. I followed this guide (which was really easy by the way) and added GameCube support to the backup channel, but as I'm sure you guys know, MGS is a 2-disc game. I'm wondering what the best way is to handle switching discs. Assuming I burn each iso to a separate disc, how do I go about switching them when I'm asked to? Can I just go back to the home screen, insert disc 2 and boot like normal?
Thanks in advance for any help, guys.

Hey guys! First off, I want to thank Larry for posting this. I wish I understood the differences between IOS's and what that all means, but the guide was easy enough to follow.
My only issue is that I can't seem to get any of my backups working. I used to have a modded Wii that could play all my backups. That got stolen so I followed these instructions on another Wii and got the Homebrew Channel installed. Got some emulators running and I can install WAD's fine. The problem is that none of my backups work. My original discs work just fine but when I run backup discs from the Backup Channel, all I get is a black screen with a bunch of disc spinning. If I press the 1 button to change options, I still get the same result no matter what I do. Black screen with a lot of disc spinning.
I have 2 questions related to this:
1. Does anyone have a shot of what the Backup Loader options are supposed to look like? I've heard a lot of stuff about some kind of logo at the top and some kind of icons but I just get a list of options for loading the game (which does nothing) and customizing options. If I press B to reboot it gives me some kind of error about the menu and then just goes back to those same options.
2. Am I doing something wrong in loading these burned backups? I'm really not sure what to expect. My old Wii just allowed me to put the backups in and use the regular disc channel. This is a bit different.
Is there a resource I can read through for explanations of what IOS's are and what the numbers on them stand for? I've seen some PDF's and such and tried to find some sites explaining what they are but they all seem to be outdated. I usually like to know why I'm doing the things I'm doing.
Any help is much appreciated. I've modded other devices (PS2, PSP, etc.) but this seems like a whole different animal.
Thanks!

I have three suggestions.
1st) My friend used this guide. He did not read carefully however and on two or three of the steps when he was suposed to hit to the right and change the IOS from 249 to 136 (just examples) he did not do so. Instead he just installed the wrong files in the wrong order. you must do EXACTLY as the directions say. My friend got black screens.
2nd) When I did the guide for the first time I did not do the ENTIRE guide. I stopped as soon as I saw game launcher and home brew on the channel screen thinking I was done. I got black screens untill I did the extra steps where you downgrade then update. This made everything work perfectly.
3rd) another problem I had was my discs. The Wii does not like DVD+ media with one of the IOS files. It worked for a while then all of a sudden the Wii quit reading the +R media. I must have wasted 10 DVD's trying different downloads. Sheesh.
Hope some of this helps. I really dont know what I am doing when it comes to the Wii. Larry did a great job with the step by step directions, now I can only hope he does a version that explains what each step is for so that I can learn and start to figure this stuff out for myself.

jamsteh, thanks for the reply!!!! Alot more helpfull than the previous one which did not even read the question.
I will attempt to install the IOS over the existing one in the morning and post my results.
ALSO, when you state to do a NAND backup, what does that do? I have not read about this before.

Yeah, this is exactly the type of thing I was going through. I don't have any DVD-R's, only +R's. I'll see if I can dig some up and check if that's the problem. I'm almost positive I did the guide exactly the way it was supposed to be done. The only thing I didn't do was the USB Loader and the Disc Channel updates. I did all the downgrades and everything. As I said, everything else works perfectly. I can install WAD's and ROM's, etc. Thanks for the response, though. I'll post back if the DVD-R's work.

Nobody has any input? I guess I can just burn them to two discs and swap them like normal?

I'm actually not sure, I haven't researched into this very much myself. However, the lack of response is probably due to the fact that you asking about making GC backups work in a thread that is supposed to be dedicated to the succesful modding of the wii according to the guide posted in the beginning of the thread! You'd probably have better luck by starting your own thread and asking the question there. Good luck! :)
