'Watchmen' Blu-ray to include full PS3 game

article published on 23 May, 2009

Warner Bros. has announced that the special 2-disc Director's Cut edition Watchmen Blu-ray disc will include a full PlayStation 3 video game, Watchmen: The End is Nigh. The movie is expected to hit stores on July 21st, but there was no word on MSRP for the special edition. Although it is unclear what extra features will be on movie/game version, the standard edition includes "11 making-of ... [ read the full article ]

Can't wait to get this movie, although I rather have extras instead of the PS3 game.

The film is complete trash & will not satisfy original watchmen fans. Just as usual the big corporations take a great idea & turn it to a big pile of doggie poop.

Shipping a game with a film hmmmm, & because of the digital locks when your disc mucks up you lose both nice idea(what did they say about dvd coatings as i've heard the same "scratch resistant" bull about blu), is this an act of desperation for a failed/failing media format? (until blu outsells DVD keep ur statistics to urself)

i will finish with a quote from the article!

What the heck?
The movie might not have been a work of art, but there was tons of fan service. I enjoyed all the little details that the non-readers would have never noticed.

As for the game... I have a PS3 and I think it is great that it has a game on the movie disc. I'm getting my money's worth and I'm sure lots of people will see it the same way too. The game had a decent review from my game news site. It's a brawler, so there is a lot of repetition, but that's the nature of those games.

In short, STFU

it just goes to show the direction the gaming business is going, why not just combine the two. eventually there wont be much of a deference from the two.

That's awesome news!

I was already planning on getting this movie on Blu-ray and having played the demo of the game, I liked it pretty much. Getting the game thrown on top of the movie is definitely icing on the cake. Can't wait!

It's a crappy game not selling well on the PlayStation Network, so seems fitting to offer it for free on the BD.

Dude things have to be shrunk to fit the time format for film and The watch men is better than 90% of Marvels "ultimate" wankage on screen, film tends to fall into 2 categories sheelpe food and complementary material and the watchmen film is not mere shit for the brain dead masses.

Hitler finds out about Watchmen ending

Yup, they include the game b/c the movie wasn't good enough. Nah, in all fairness, it wasn't that bad of a film. It was just too 'different' for a lot of people's tastes I think.

Check the link for a funny video.

I agree with Zippy. It's hard to fit 12 issues into 2 or 3 hours. But it was a fairly decent job and the twist at the end wasn't too bad either. I wish they would've stayed as true to the League of Extraordinary Gentleman as they did to the Watchmen. To me it's a far better story. Alan Moore is a brilliant writer and they usually butcher his stories. For the most part they stayed pretty true to the book at least. Although when I was watching it I was thinking "Why am I here? I already know how this is going to end.".

As for the free game, I'll take it. When they showed it on G4 it didn't look too bad. I wouldn't buy it but hey if you're giving it away, that's a different story.

By all means, try the demo on PSN. It's not a gem, but also not a bad game, especially if you like old-school beat 'em ups like Bare Knuckle (Streets of Rage), Final Fight and the likes ...

Yeah, the games are all trying to look more life-like at the same time that the movies are using so many special effects that they look like video games. But there is a difference...the game lets you skip the video bits so you don't have to watch as much bad acting.

They probably had to lower the quality of the movie in order to make room for the game. A two-hour movie at maximum quality (about 4MBPS) will not fit on a single-layer disc. That is why you have box sets; the discs hold more, but at maximum quality they have the same play time as DVDs. They could fit longer movies on a disc easily, but it results in a lower quality picture.

Actually, the game sold well on both consoles.

The problem is, The American media programs kids to like Marvel & DC characters for the first 12 years of their lives.

As an adult, that same person doesn't have the mental capacity to accept a new super hero. That's why you see movies being made from old comics and shows. Transformers, GI Joe, Spider-man, X-Men, etc.

Watchman was a really good movie. Light years better than the last two Spider-man movies. Spider-man 3 was a disaster but it made millions at the box office. Why? Because you're programmed to go see it.

Watchman gets 3 stars out of 4.

Action films and by default comic films tend to be tween fodder Ghost rider and Transformer are good examples of that, Dark Knight and Watchmen tried to be something more and that that I liked them. Hell Boy, Iron man and Incredible Hulk tried to be smart action flicks that did not rape the fiction so roughly thus I like them, Judge Dread was a good watch despite itself and so was L.O.E.G. Not many other comic flicks I can say I enjoyed in the slightest... Batman 1-2 of course, Parts of Batman 3,Superman returns while bland(due to the fiction mostly) was good enough I can't of many more than made the grade for me....

I also enjoyed the quirky Mummy and Pirates adventure flicks.

pphoenix, you do not speak for everyone. I'm an 'original Watchmen fan' as you put it...and I enjoyed the movie. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's trash to others. And not sure what you're talking about with discs mucking up, I haven't ran across that.

I saw the movie in theatres with my partner he isn't much of a fan to comic book movies and we both loved it now the best news is a full directors cut is coming to bluray/dvd that should be a big improvement on an already great movie.
