My 40GB PALPS3 was having wifi problems for a while and couldn't really connect wirelessly to the PS3 controll pad. Well none of them. Couldn't connect to the network either coz 1. needed an update, 2. Something wrong with the wifi module. I was on firmware 2.53 at the tme and decided to update to frmware 2.76. I downloaded the update and put it on my 4GB memory stick = ROOT:/ PS3/ UPDATE/ PS3UPDAT.PUP ... backed up my save data and installed the update to the hdd, or so i think, and it went to the update screen. Started the update and it stops at 70%. It started again on the update, but no luck. Tried to access the recovery menu but it just goes to the Update screen straight away. So in order for this problem to be resolved is to do this.
1. Disassemble your PS3 - you can do this by clicking here
2. Reassemble your PS3 and make sure everything is in place or the fix may not work. Why theres an error when updating is that, a piece of hardware is not plugged in, missing, or malfuntioning.
3. Continue the update - and it should work. - if you've been having trouble syncing your control pad with the PS3, heres a solution to it. - My problem was the wifi module, it wasnt connected in properly when i was disassembling the PS3.
