I really don't see what is so bad about Hitachi Drives. I mod 360 for family and friends, around 10 - 15, and I have had experience with every type of drive.

Hitachi - Early model, throw at POT tweak at it and it would read any media I threw at it. Later model, not really a need for the POT tweak. My father-in-law does have a launch console that I never had to do a POT tweak to and it loads any media up in a heart beat.

Samsung - My least favorite drive. Read Verbatim fine, but would never read a Memorex. Loudest drive in my opinion.

BenQ - Would load both Verbatim and Memorex, although it took about 3 seconds longer for it to recognize the Memorex.

Lite-ON - Without a doubt in my mind, this is my favorite 360 drive. Quite, almost never hear it spinning. Have used Verbatim, Memorex, and some weird cheap brand with it, and it loads it up just as fast as on original.

If you are wanting to spoof a drive, I would suggest BenQ. Easiest drive to flash and it is a reliable drive.

I guess its the fact you have to do a POT tweak to get it to read the other media. If you go buy a new car do you want to have to go get the motor retuned to run unleaded gas?

Thats my opinion anyway. I just don't like them because they are loud and unreliable.

Your comparison is flawed. Unleaded gas, in this case, would be retail games or Verbatims. Memorex, seeing how it is collectively considered the underdog, would be leaded gas or diesel. Any time you switched fuel types you would have to make an adjustment in the car's engine. A POT tweak is way easier than rehauling an engine or replacing one in any case and should not be compared. Perhaps you should have compared it to the carbuerator (sp?) which often had to be adjusted on older model cars?

Never the less, I've never used anything other than Mems for my backups on any of my consoles (I'm on my second one right now, first got RRoD). Between my friends and I, who all use mems as well, we have each used all of the different drive types. We have never encounted a problem. Mem was bought out not long ago and has improved their quality assurance greatly.

I am not attempting to change your minds but constantly giving bad advice such as "memorex r teh d3vil" is just silly.

your statements are based off personal experience as is the case when people say mems are junk cause they have had a bad experience. Burner type has a lot to do with it not just 360 drive type.

If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

Wow, well thanks for the replies guys but I think some of you misinterpreted my last post. I already have the Verbs and tossed the mems because I KNOW for a FACT that the mems were giving me bad burns.

I thought about the POT tweak but I wasn't too sure about how to do it, and when i read up on it, it seemed as though it mainly fixed the "open trey" and "dirty disc" errors. I didn't see many people having much success with the "unplayable disc" after the POT tweak. How about you guys? I guess I'll give it a shot, though my drive is playing original games fine.

I figured I'd check any known computability of my dvd burner here and researching if I should flash my burner's FW. Which brings me to the question: If imgburn is burning and verifying successfully and abgx is saying the isos are good to go, could there still be a problem with my burner's FW and/or the backups? Like, even though everything seems OK, could my backups still be coming out bad?

I found this http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/tutorial/XBOX_360_POT_CALIBRATION_V1.0_by_Moda.pdf I figured I'd give this a shot.

Is there a way I can test my already burned backups, to see if they are or aren't the problem?

Thanks again guys.

If you know of someone else with a modded box you can test it on there. Other than that, there really isn't much testing you can do.

The POT tweak will probably help because even though it can play originals, the lasers have to work harder to read burnt discs. The POT tweak will allow it to do so.

Well I haven't done the POT Cal. yet, but I did run the disc using Nero CD-DVD Speed and the disc quality test stopped about half way through the disc. So I'm guessing that even though imgburn said everything was all good, that I still got a bad burn out of it. So I flashed my dvd burner's FW and I'm trying another burn. If this doesn't work then my next step is the POT Cal. And if that doesn't work I'll probably be in the market for a new burner.

@jcalton88 - I actually don't know anybody, I live in a small city in Northern California (Eureka) that is isolated by hundreds of miles of redwood forests.

Success again!

I flashed my FW, and fired up a game, worked no problem. Tried firing up the game about 2 hours later and it didn't work. Calibrated my POT from 3.54 to 3.20 - Now all my games work. Though UFC is pretty sluggish/laggy in comparison to Red Faction - If I lower my POT even more do you guys think the game will run smoother?

And I have one last problem - on some games my screen starts kind of flickering with light black/dark lines and a few times (about 2 or 3 times) I've lost my picture altogether for about 1-3 seconds. I'm running the 360 at 1080p on my 47" Visio (I know the TV isn't at fault). I don't think it's the cord because it really only does it with a few games, I think it might be a heat issue, but I dunno. It hasn't really happened enough to become a big problem.

Damn, I've been through a lot with this 360 over the past 16 days...

About that flickering of your screen,if you are using the cable that comes with the 360,(not a HDMI cable) it could have a short in it,my screen flickers alittle bit and color fads sometimes and it's the cable going to the xbox to my tv. It has a short and all I have to do is wiggle it just a hair and the color comes right back on.

I'll try this out next time it happens, thanks ash.
