I have a PS3 that's out of warranty manufactured in 2007 it just stopped reading anything just get the gay little bubble on the corner when i insert a disc. So i took it apart cleaned the laser with a q-tip and isoprophyl alcohol still nothing i noticed that it doesn't spin; the laser does move reset itself and flashes red then thats it nothing more the blue loading and eject light goes on it mounts correctly just no spin. I read another post on here that replacing the laser might do the trick ( mines a Kem 400A the single lens one) the thing is ive also heard that sometimes its not the laser its the blue rays ic or something and that the nand chip on the blue ray drives board is married to the PS3 motherboard like the XBOX 360's drives have unique drive keys so just replacing the boards wouldn't work and i guess theres no way of extracting and flashing the blue ray drives with the right key to make it work with the PS3 with the bad controller board. Also i seen the prices on replacement PS3 lasers as high as $140!! but on ebay around 60 70 bucks i think their from asian sellers and i dont trust that ill get a good laser it will probably die out within hours days or a month,(oh yeah which are better brown clips or white clips i thought i saw that white clips are from refurbs) then ill be down more money and have another junk laser and also many places dont have them in stock like theres a shortage of these replacement lasers, im not sure if its worth buying the replacement laser or just scrapping it out on ebay, id call SONY but what are the odds theyll take it if its been opened 99.9 to 00.1 ? Any help would be greatly appreciated great timing for it to fk up too bought infamous and didnt get to play it now gamestop will probably give me 10 dollars in store credit for it and even less for my other PS3 games.......
Well, the most logical thing to do is go ahead and try to replace the laser assembly.
That way, if it works, you now having a working PS3 and everything is fine. And Even if it doesn't work: You've narrowed down what the promblem could be and aquired another part that you can turn around sell along with the rest of them -- So aside from some shipping and handling money, you're really no worse off than you are right now. And, as it stands, one of the other afterdawn members, srooney03, might just be looking to buy a reasonably priced Fan Assembly.
i had fixed it yesterday the laser came ( i bought it a while ago) it works back to normal:)playing infamous pretty cool game. thanks fr the reply vicious.
