Black Screen and not ejecting ps3 disk help

Hello, my bros ps3 got really messed up. For one he did a update and now he got the black screen. I so far have heard two solution to fix this.
1. Hard reset it
2. Turning the ps3 on and then removing Hdd so it reformate it.
Also the optical sensor is not working. I think cause it won't suck in games by its self. I have to push on the wheels a little then it takes it. So i was just wondering if that what would cause that and any kinda problem solving situation that i could try for it.

Are you sure your brother fully updated it? Or was power disconnected whilst it was updating? If so. Your PS3's firmware is corrupted, this is also known as "bricked".

Basically, you can't use your PlayStation 3 anymore because the software making it run doesn't work properly.

Removing the hard drive won't fix anything because the actual system software is written in the internal system called 'Flash'.

Unfortunatley if that's the case, you'll have to send it to Sony for repairs as you can't fix this.

I'M SO SORRY! ;O - No, I don't think its what I just told you because the PlayStation 3 would let u continue to upgrade if power went out . . . so uhh, forget i said that.

Try getting into the service menu. Hold the power until it turns on and shuts off. Holld it again until you hear a quick double beep. Download the latest firmware from Sony and put it on a flash drive. Install the firmware from the pen drive from the service menu.
