Please help!
ok, i'm really confused since everyone has a different setup. Here's my dilemma. 3.1U system, Wiikey 1, Updated to 1.9s. Older games seem to work just fine. I have HBC loaded via Twilight Hack, BUT i try newer games (i.e. Boom Blox Party, Grand Slam Tennis, Tiger Woods 10) and I get a black screen after I hit the A button from the preview channel of the game. I don't think it's the way i'm burning the iso's, since they have the channel "preview" and I have done the older games the same way (SSBM, Boom Blox, etc)
What do i need to install/update for these games to work??? 4.0U? Wad manager? DVDX? PatchMii? WOW is my head spinning...
thank you in advance for HELP!

Install cIOS38_rev12.
Now update to 4.0 (normal Wii update) then install IOS60Patch. If you want trucha disc to work then run IOS Downgrader.

quote=larrylje]Start at the Extra Steps: section of the guide. Download the files I have linked and place them on your SD Card.
Now follow the cIOS38_rev12 section first.
ok, I downloaded the files and started the cIOS38_rev12 installer. According to your guide, I should select IOS249. I don't have that as an option...closest is 254.
now what?

found this on another forum:
"rename the cIOS38_rev12-Installer.dol to boot.dol"
do I need to do that before I will see IOS249 as an option?
thanks to anyone that can help

Pretty much as a rule any .dol app that you want to see in the homebrew channel must be renamed to boot.dol. This will allow you to see it in the homebrew channel but that will still not make you see IOS249.
That is because what you are trying to install with cIOS38_rev12-Installer.dol essentially is IOS249.
It's like you are saying I need to install Windows in my computer but when I turn my computer on before installing Windows, there's no Windows! I didn't put it there and it isn't there! :) It made me smile it comes off as slightly funny to me. Not in a bad way, to me it's just like "well yeah..."
But I can understand why you wouldn't see it that way.
cIOS38_rev12-Installer.dol installs to IOS249 and becomes your IOS249. After you install it you will see IOS249 when you want to install other things.
And the only reason this has a chance of working the way that it looks like you are trying to do it is because you are on 3.1
If you were on a firmware higher than 3.1 then just trying to use an installer to install cIOS would be blocked. 3.1 is pretty early actually. I hope things go smoothly. You aren't trying to install a dol with Wad Manager right?
Also note that installing cIOS38 wasn't the only thing the others that responded to your thread said to do. Just make sure that you do it before you do the other things that they said to do.

Try installing it using IOS35 or IOS36.
and DON'T RENAME ANYTHING. If you downloaded my SoftmodPack everything is the way it should be.

Thanks for the help AMatthews and Larrylje,
Yes Larrylje I am using your Softmodpak and i did use IOS36, then updated to 4.0. So far, so good.
Ok, now to apply the next/last patch. You said to patch the IOS50 using the IOS60 guide, correct? So, do I install the IOS249 first, then the IOS50? (and NOT the IOS60--only use the guide as reference?)
I'm on the home stretch (i think)! thanks for the help.

IOS50Patch was a typo.
As I said before.
Install IOS38_rev12
Then update the Wii to 4.0 firmware.
Then run the IOS60Patch.
When you run the IOS60Patch say NO to IOS61 install, Say yes to IOS60 Install, Say Yes to IOS60 Patch, say NO to shop channel.
After that you should be ready to go.

Thanks Larrylje! I did the first two steps, and I was just waiting to hear back on the IOS50 vs IOS60 issue. Thanks for clearing up the typo.
I ran the IOS60 patch and got an error with installing the "IOS60patched.wad" Error said "Installing ticket...ERROR! (ret= -2011)
Was I suppose to install the IOS249 first? or what did i do wrong?
(I promise once I get this working...i will go away! ;) )
thanks!
fyi: here are the steps I took:
1) load WAD Manager
2) select IOS60
3) select source device: <Wii SD Slot>
4) Available WAD files on the device: >>IOS60patched.wad
5) Pressed A to install a WAD file
6) Select action <Install WAD> press A to continue
here's what it says "Opening "IOS60patched.wad", please wait...OK!
Installing WAD, please wait... >>Installing ticket...ERROR! (ret= -2011) Press any button to continue..."
thanks again.

cIOS38_rev12 is IOS249
Do you know for sure if it installed before updating to 4.0?

It appeared to install correctly. Plus, I can select IOS249 which I didn't see as an option before updating, right?
I didn't get an error, so again, I assume the cIOS38_rev12 installed correctly. thanks

I don't know what to tell you then. It should work. Try formating the SD Card again and transfer over the IOS60Patch and run it again.

dang...the re-format and copy over the IOS60 again didn't work. Same error.
and just to clarify: to install the cIOS38_rev12, I load the cIOS38_rev12/Custom IOS Installer 2.0 program AND (after updating the system to 4.0) load the Wad-Manager 1.4 to install the IOS60Patch, correct???
just for kicks, I tried a couple of the newer games that I have (Grand Slam Tennis & Up) and they work, so maybe I got a false error?

No forget about IOS50.
You run the IOS60Patcher installer from the homebrew channel.

ugh! my turn with the typo ;) I meant (and changed the reference) to IOS60. I did NOT try to install IOS50.
You said to run it from the HBC, just so i'm clear...you are referring to running HBC, then selecting the Wad Manager, right? If so, that's what i did.
thanks

I don't know why the IOSPatcher wad will not work for you.
Try the other IOS60 patcher that runs from the Homebrew channel.
You can download my other softmod pack from this link HERE.
Don't follow any of the directions in this guide. Just download the pack I have linked. Then run Homebrew Channel and then run IOS60 installer from the Homebrew Channel list.

first, Thank you SO much Larry for staying with me through all of this.
The IOS60 installer from the Homebrew Channel list (from your other softmod kit) worked! at least it said successful with no errors.
any way to test it to be sure it "took"?

Larry is not out to brick wii's his guide's and his assistance has already been proven. You need to retrace your steps and figure out what YOU did wrong. It's really hard to completely brick a wii.

First off you can not brick your system if you uninstall IOS249 which is cIOS38_rev12.
Second off I have no idea how your Wii was modded before you attempted to follow directions that where not meant for you. So you took it open yourself to do this without asking if it was safe for you to do it.
Third karma just bit you in the ass. Why should I help someone that is accusing me of corrupting their system on purpose?

I have wiikey as well and I recently updated my system to 4.0 using the soft mod guide Larry provided and now i can download right to SD card and play from SD card and all my games work fine. Even the newer games worked for me before I upgraded to 4.0. The only game that never worked for me was Little King Story. Also you mentioned that you had 3.1U before you ran into problems. If you had wiikey installed you could of upgraded to 3.4U which is REQUIRED to make those newer games work.

just a quick note to say that I followed the guide and it works great for me...can't fault the guide or it's creator if it has worked for everyone else, but I feel your pain.
