Do you have BootMii (as boot 2) or Preloader installed to your system?

What firmware are you on?

i dont think i have either one of the ones you speak of. I followed your guide a long time ago with the 3.4 fix. Since then i update to 4.0 using your newest guide.

First off I would use this guide HERE and try installing BootMii to Boot2 of your system (You do not have to install DVDx or HBC 1.0.3).

If it can only be installed as an IOS don't worry about installing it.

If it installs to Boot2 of your system then install it and then backup your NAND. Make sure after you back up your NAND you can read it on your PC (just insert the SD Card into your PC and see if there is a nand.bin file on it. If there is then copy that to your PC and keep it for safe keeping).

After you backup your NAND copy the bootmii folder at the root of the SD Card to your PC. Make sure it has copied to the PC for safe keeping. You can now delete the bootmii folder from the SD Card (this will let the Wii System boot normally without booting into the Boot Mii menu).

If you ever need to recover from a brick all you need to do is copy the bootmii folder back to the SD Card.

I would also recomend you backup the nand.bin and the bootmii folder onto a CD or DVD.

I will now work on the rest of the guide.

Nope just add the 00000072.APP or 00000075.APP (whatever your region is) file that you backed up to the Softmii folder and install it with Softmii Tweak Toy.

Make sure you have no Game Cube controller or Memory Stick inserted into the Wii.

This guide is for PAL & NTSC(USA) 4.0 softmoded systems only (NOT for 3.4 or below firmware or JAP/KOR systems).

Doing this can brick your system if you do not do things properly.

Before doing any changes to the Wii System Menu make sure you either have Bootmii (installed to Boot2) or Preloader .29 installed or both!

I have both BootMii and Preloader installed and have bricked a few times when trying to edit my own theme. But with the help of Preloader .29 mainly I have always been able to recover.

You can go HERE for a Boot Mii install guide. If you get BootMii installed to boot2 make sure you do a nand backup.

We will install preloader .29 below.

I know there are other ways to do this but I will stick to what I know.

Lets get started...

Larry....Do i need to install bootmii? Can i just go straight to preloader.29? Will preloader do the same as bootmii?

Nice one larry, just one question:
For those of us who are artistically gifted, how do we create our own themes? :P

You don't need Boot Mii but I recommend it if you can install it to Boot2.

You can get some more themes at the Softmii website.

Go HERE for a Tutorial on how to create a theme. it is sticked at the top of the forum.

Larry your last paragraph says "With the Wii System off turn it on and hold down the reset button. This should bring up the Preloader menu. Go to Homebrew Channel in the Preloader menu." Do you mean turn the wii off with the power button till it turns red then turn it on with the power button and then hold down the reset button?

Or

Turn off the wii by holding the reset button and turn it on by holding the reset button again?

Or

Turn it off holding the power button then hold the reset button to turn it on?

Kinda lost here....lol sorry its kinda stupid but ive read this thing about 9 times now just to make sure i get everything right. I dont wanna brick by doing something so stupid as to turning the wii off or on holding the wrong buttons. Thanks!

Im new, so bear with me!

It dosen't matter how the Wii is turned off. Just as long as it is turned off RED or Yellow (stand bye). Just make sure it is off. Then turn it on and hold the reset button down till the Preloader menu comes up.
