The following comments relate to this news article:
article published on 26 June, 2009
According to a VG247 report, the eventual PS3 firmware 3.0 will be a "completely new system," not unlike how the NXE was for rival Microsoft's Xbox 360 console.
The report says the update could be coming as soon as the holiday season 2009 and will be a "complete overhaul."
A new reputation system will be included, one "in which users will be able to evaluate each other will be provided ... [ read the full article ]

The hell with the firmware! Where's the price cut that Sony needs to survive the console race? To me that would be more important than some firmware, IMO. Bring the price down, then people will flock to the console, and then you can focus on the firmware!!

I agree, they should bring the price down... but their online system is pretty bad though. Sony should bring the price down to below xbox 360 before microsoft releases that xbox natal, which will swamp ps3 and wii's sales

Nevermind focusing on price cuts, what about the people with PS3s? What do we get? lol
I think the PS3's system could use an overhaul, just cause it never really had it's own... Just ripped from the PSP. The PS3 is far greater then a PSP though, so why run similar systems?

Price cuts = More sales = More money to upgrade online play

If you think Natal is going to swamp Wii's sales you are smoking crack. I think you and Microsoft public relations are the only ones that would say or possibly begin to think that. Nintendo has solidified their position as number one this time around, and they may have even created enough brand recognition to float through another generation. God knows Sony is only selling consoles to people holding onto the PS2 years. As a fan of previous Sony products, it's a hard thing to say, but it's the truth. Microsoft has become so ego driven due to their lead on Sony they are probably going to drop the ball the next time around as well. I am guessing both PS3s new motion and Natal will breathe little life into the respective consoles based on the late term of the cycle. Both technologies will probably see as much attention as sixaxis motion controls, or gesture controls for a mortal kombat game on Wii. If you can turn it off, it probably will be turned off.

Yeah, you keep telling yourself that, mate. Why would anybody buy a wii over natal if xbox+natal: has more games, has better graphics, better motion sensing, is cheaper and better online gameplay. If you think that wii will outsell xbox 360 when natal is release, then indeed you are the one "smoking crack".

I see both the proposed reporting and reputation systems causing far more harm than good if they are indeed in said patch. And I really wouldn't call the holiday season soon.

It's just another way for sony to copy the xbox 360, xbox live has had that feature for a long time. Sony has stolen basically everything from nintendo and ms (online, guide button, this firmware update (if it goes ahead) is a copy off NXE, browser, wii's built in wifi, and the list goes on).

- The Ability To Use A Monitor in its operating system
- xerox's operating system
- The Ability To Update The OS or compents
- I Dont know if this counts because you have to pay $100 for it, but the external wifi usb plug in for the xbox 360 (since Nintendo Inovated the world with wi-fi, anyone else that uses it is copying)
- The natal(some of may know it as eye toy 2.0)
- ohh and Basicly anything from mac osx (Gadgets?..nice try MS)

Microsoft even copied the Control Panel name from Apple lmao
They changed it to Preferences in OS X, and now that a whole bunch of other things are being copied who knows what will be changed.

I think that those same kids that should be reported are the same ones that are going to abuse the reporting system, by flooding the system with things like ZOMG NO WAI CAN HE SHOT ME SO KWIK AIMBOT HAXOR. Or OMG UR SUCH A JERK IM GUNNA RAPPORT U LOL. I've had to deal with these little annoying buggers all the time, and if they make the reporting system that quick and simple they're going to be on it like white on rice.
And as for the reputation system by the way they make it sound I don't even need to explain how quickly thats going to get abused. Mark my words, if that happens we're going to see threads for reputation trading all over the console forums and people making side accounts just to one up their main account.

Except that industry analysts and other experts think Natal is too limited (can only track more general movements, not very precise ones that most hardcore gamers would want) AND could cost up to $150+ just for the extra hardware. Even the 'demo' shown wasn't realtime and they had no estimate at all when it would be available (if?).
So if before Natal is the needed time frame, Sony still has 1-2 years to do a price cut. :-)
