what what what a minute.. i thought i just starting figuring this thing out then im thrown for a curve...!!!

It appears that I have a Lite-On drive based on the shape and color of the dvd tray and those two yellow wires that are located in that hole on the bottom right of the dvd tray when you remove the front fascia..

No are you telling me that not all lite-ons are flashed the same...

I guess what im meaning to say is wont "Leerages's" "stock" Lite-On flash tutorial work for all lite-on drives???

????????????????????

sound about right..??

Qestion 2.. If i have this port which would you recommend, the Lite or the PRO?????????????????????????????????

i want to place an order...

Honest to Goodness answer here:

It is probably cheaper just to find someone on craigslist or mod it for you for about $25.00...I rate my time at $85 and trust me...trying to make a probe and screw with a lite-on wasn't worth it :-). Even buying the probe wasn't worth it for 1 drive.

Save a headache and just have someone else do it if you have that many questions and it's getting frustrating...

Newbie sorry if i offended you..

Hey I just want to make sure I have all the bases covered..

1. was led to believe there were different serial numbers on Lite-On drives that require a different approach to flashing.

2. Wondered whch was more advantages (if at all) to choose a probe that connected via USB or DB-9.. Unfortunaltly you lack the abilitly to see that..

As said a few years ago i spent a lot of time learning how to make backups and flash a benQ. The lite-on is new to me but ill get there..

Its reassuring to know that we have quality members on this board that offer positive suggestions like yourself though..

Thank you again for your help in this matter...

74850C = Probe
83850C = No Probe

Serial(DB-9) = No driver
USB = Driver

No advantage to either or.

i ordered a CK pro kit with probe thru some place in the UK just a few minutes ago.. looking forward to trying this...

I see I have the 74850C.

I also notice that I have a 9-pin connector; 16550C-compatible according to the DELL tech. specs.

Would I be correct in thinking that this port would be compatible with the serial DB-9 xbox 360 PROBE connector?..

Thx Leerage..

You are truly an asset to this forum and go out of your way to help others..

Kudos......!!!...

ya i saw that pic. in another one of your posts..

I am unsure as to which pin location on my computer does what.. Im sure I am ok with this though...

Again not meaning to sound like a noob (even tough that has already been done here), does the serial connector on the end of this probe have the Pins (male) or the Holes (female)..

Thx again..

Yup, you got it. The end that has pins is the male and the end that has holes is the female.

The PRO has a female connection and your PC should have a male connection. So you will need to pick up a DB-9 cable that has a male and female end.

If the probe has a female end then yes I'm good.. However why do you say i need a DB-9 cable, i figured that was included/attached as part of this probe i ordered..

The PRO kit comes with a USB cable so you could just use that.

That is the reason I said get a DB-9 cable because you mentioned that. You can just use USB though. All you have to do is install the driver.

Also, the probe has nothing to do with the DB-9. The probe is attach to the power cable between the connectivity kit and the drive. The DB-9 or USB connection is how the info gets transferred from your drive to the computer.

Im sorry ive been using the wrong terminology.. i ordered the "Lite" kit thats why all the db-9 questions here...

I am sure this is something I can figure out when the kit arrives but ill shoot this your way anyways..

I havent removed my drive yet. I know that the two wiring harnesses that go to the back of it are as follows, the sata connection and the power..

Now, it is my understanding the ck3 lite (pcb printed circuit board) is what has the db-9 cable attched to it and the other end going to the DB-9 (male) port on the back of my pc..

From there I would assume there is another cable going out of the ck3 PCB to the power supply connection on the back of my lite-on drive (this is also where the probe wiring harness is mated to this same connector i figure)..

I would gather that in addition to this, the sata cable is attached to the lite-on and my pci 6421 sata card..

Correct me if im wrong...

You are going to need to give a little more information before any body can help you.

What type of SATA chipset are you using?
What firmware revision of the Lite-ON do you have?
Do you have PortIO installed?

Maybe post a JF log.

leerage.

I have a 74850 C Lite On. Using Jungle Flasher 0.166 Beta.

I'm using a PCMCIA SATA Card with my laptop with the 6421 VIA chipset.

I can power my CK3 pro and eject my dvd drive. all cables hooked up but my jungle flasher CAN NOT detect my dvd drive under the "dvdkey32" tab. Tried all the i/o ports. I have VIA ports only.

Any help? I have POrt IO installed and have Framework. The com port can detect my CK3 pro.

I guess it's an issue of my laptop detecting my dvd drive.

Try removing the VIA driver:

1. Disable VIA card in Device Manager.
2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and remove "viamraid.sys" or "vsmraid.sys".
3. Re-enable VIA card in Device Manager.
4. Re-Boot PC.

Sorry guys. Photobucket says I've exceeded my bandwidth and wants me to upgrade to PRO, which I'm not going to do. I'm going to try to deleting some other ones and see if that helps. If not, they should be back up by the 24th.
