Have you tried using ck3tool v1.2.4 to detect the right ports for your USB probe? Its under the setting tab. You can try reading the key from this ck3tool as well (under the liteon tab). Both buttons there worked for me to extract the key. Hope this helps.

What make/model/manufacture date is the drive?

Do you have the tray half open?
I made that mistake before and got the same error message.

Lite-Ons will never give a good key via Jungle Flasher by SATA alone, AFAIK.
The 74850s require a probe for a first-time flash.
The 83850s have an encrypted drive key and require a separate program to decode it.
The newest Lite-Ons, manufactured after July 09, have a completely different system that hasn't been cracked yet and it is downright impossible to pull a key from some of those drives at this point.

sorry for delay in reply.
Ive just tried ck3 tool v1.2.4
under settings and selecting the 3 different com ports each one says no usb device found
ive tried tray half open, a quarter open and little bit less little bit more.
make and model is june 2008

under add remove hardware ive tried removing to reinstall the pl2303 usb to serial program but it wont, ive tried different usb ports also.
Thanks for any help.
edit: ive just purchased a DB9M to DB9F serial cable from fleabay so should have it by next week, if that doesnt work i dont know what else to try, all other drives like benq, tosh/sam and hitachi have worked.

Hi,
Really hope this isn't off topic of this thread...
I've noticed from some research that there are a few key readers for the Liteon 74850C f/w drive. I'm keen to get my box modded up, could anyone recommend an easy to use key reader. Also since i'm only probably going to do my own xbox is it worth purchasing the power kit?-does the 360 get annoyed being powered on/off while the dvd drive isn't connected?
Key extractors copied from jungleflasher guide:
Maximus USBXtractor & powerunit or
Connectivity Kit v3 (optional probe) or Maximus Xtractor (with optional spear))

Well in my opinion I would say yes get the kit. Its only about sixty dollars and it make this job a ton easier. There is no soldering involved and you dont have to use your xbox 360 to power or eject the drive if you buy the CK3 pro kit. Also if there are firmware updates in the future you will have to reflash the drive in which you can still use the connectivity kit for that as well. Plus you never know if you'll have to flash anybody elses either. I was only planning on doing mine and it took me about half an hour. Then my buddy wanted his done as well. So I did his too. Since I was already familiar with the kit it cut the time down do about 15 min. Thats opening your box flashing the drive and reasembling the box. It really all comes down to personal choice and how easy or hard you want the job to be.
Im as new as it gets to all this, so please bear with me.

Was helpful- i completely forgot about updates.
Have got one part of the job already done- taken apart the box :)
Does anyone know if the CK3 pro kit, is the easiest to use around?

Thanks for tut i followed it exactly (i thought so anyway) but now when put back in the xbox i can only play dvds,i believe with the original key you can go back and try again but im not sure what the original key was and if i have it. Would it be the dummy bin that was saved after the key was extracted? Any help on solving this would be much appreciated. It is 74850c lite on and i used ck3 lite with probe.

I don't know of any places inside the US but why worry about it. Almost every place that sells it ships to the US. I bought mine from modchipcentral. I've actually bought a few things through them, drivekey flattmii, and the ck3 pro kit. I've always received excellent service from them and they usually ship the very next day after the order was place. (same day if you get it shipped next day) Oh yeah they always respond quickly to any emails I have ever sent them.
Im as new as it gets to all this, so please bear with me.

hey man... I tried to follow the tut here, but something went wrong-
When i finished and tried it out i could load DVD movies really fast.
Old xbox games showed up as i had opend them in a dvd. ANd 360 keept saying READING.
Where do i go from here?
I have a copy of Key. Dummy . Inquiry and indentify.
PS. im Using USBXtractor instead of CK3
Please take it easy on the bubblerat

I have a simply question. I have Blaster CK3, so on the step to erase the drive how do I power cycle my Lite-On, since that is connect thru Blaster CK3.
