hey guys,,a friend of mine has a older 80gig that also plays ps2 games,,well it did up until a week ago,,when everyou put in a dvd or a ps2 game,,it show up right away in the main screen,,but once you click on it to play,,the console freezes,,i have to hit the power button behind the console to restart it,,hard boot it,,but when i put in a music cd or a ps3 game or a bluray movie,,on problems,,yes i changed the laser just to try it,,no change,,any ideas what it could be,,cheers

Reset the factory defaults with a disc in the machine. When it resets it should auto boot the disc.

thanks zero but there is another problem,,the firmware was at 2.60,,so i thought updating to 2.80 would do the trick,,well it crashed at 56%,,now the ps3 is bricked,,call sony up and to no suprise got to pay 170 canadian for another machine,,love sony asked if every time i do an firmware update and it goes wrong i have to pay,,im sorry sir but thats our policy,,thats all he had to say,,so i told him if my ps3 bricks because of your forced update,,then a xbox will fit in the same spot were my ps3 sits,,this sucks because ill be freaking everytime i update now,,,
