So your saying if i use my via sata card i might have a shot at flashing my drive?I just thought it would make jungle flasher freeze up like it used to or is that only the older liteon drives?

No. You must take apart the 360 and flash the drive via SATA from your PC.

I finally opened my new 360 and was excited to find that it is the 83850c from May... and then Wave4 hits.

I've held off flashing because of Wave4... but i am considering installing the Blaster 360 so i dont have to open my 360 every time a new firmware comes out.

Is there any downside to using this device? With the Lite-On? Is it detectable/compatible/etc?

hey guys, new here. i gotta problem. i'm trying to flash my lite-on drive with my sony laptop. i've installed all the drivers correctly and am using the uniata ones. the lite-on is connected to my laptop via sata cable into the PCMCIA to SATA adapter with vt6421 chipset which i bought from http://www.diygadget.com/vt6421a-pcmcia-...r-xbox-360.html , the lite-on is being powered by my xbox. I have the 83850c version as well. when i open jungleflasher and click on the dvd32 key tab, i get the No Drive detected! for every single i/o port that i try. i've been searching through forums and google for days but can't figure out how to get the laptop to see the lite-on. any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Did you try installing just the VIA driver first and then uninstalling it?

Honestly, the blaster is a waste of your money. You can disassemble the XBOX 360 within 5 minutes and flashing is a breeze (once you know what you are doing). As for firmware updates, basically it is 2 updates per year. You aren't going to be taking it apart every week to update. IX 1.61 should be here soon so you will be able to flash the drive.

Just install the VIA driver, and then uninstall, then try again. Don't install the uniata. I'm not for sure how this is going to work as I haven't really troubleshot issues dealing with a PCMCIA card.

Be careful not to have the pc hanging in the middle of a flash, especially on the older models of Lite-on drives, if you have a quick look on ebay u`ll find lots, cheap VIA cards like 10-15 Euros still do the job well, I`va had one for months now and did tons of flashes with no problem.

Leeeerage can you confirm pls? I have a recent elite 360 manf.date on case 29th August 2009 and the liteon of course is a 83850C with a JULY 2009 date. I`m keep on getting failed when trying to extract key, think these are the shiny brand new babies that cant be flashed yet aye? thanks in advance!

these can be done i have the same console with the exact same manufacture date 2009-08-29 and my drive is made july 09 83850c and i have successfully done mine. it took a few goes mind you to get the half open fully open combo right.if you get to the second part and it fails it mean that you are not getting the half open method right so try again. i used a via pci card and an xecuter pro to do mine just down load the jungleflasher guide and follow exactly what it says step by step exactly word for word.good luck

It can be done! Just flashed my August 09 stamped 83850c using the jungle flasher tutorial. I did position the tray by hand when the drive was off. Used my 360 as the power source...and carefully unplugged power connector from drive. Good luck.

P.S. Been reading this forum for ages...don't know why I never joined.

i've never posted but have got tons and tons of info from just reading and searchin through threads. im stuck on a forming stack of open tray liteons and dont want to try anymore until i figure out whats going on. i'm 100% that im doing the flashing correctly following leerage's guide. all the steps go down just like the guide appearing like a successful flash. when i go to play a disc from dashboard whether its a backup or not it displays open tray after a few seconds. ive tried searching and i found a thread from where leerage said that it happens sometimes with the liteon 74850c and it might be the laser. there was another thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-152/..._liteon-809604/ up towards the top about pretty much the same issue. i tried the two suggested things in that thread to the first drive and still nothing. so after the first one i tried another one same thing (both 74850c). i wanted to take the laser ribbon off of the next drive before i flashed but it appeared as if it would rip off if i tried it. is that something i should have to do take the ribbon cable off before flashing? i keep thinkin im having a fluke laser go out so i opened up a june and august 2009 83850c and was able to get a good key from both of them. same thing when i tried them out open tray on both. i dont have any spare benqs right now so i just borrowed a spare new samsung drive from friend i want to try and spoof the fw to try out the liteons that i pulled the keys off with open tray error before i attempt this again. is that possible? have a few more august 8350c drives dont know if a key can be pulled from them or not but don't even want to try until i find out why this keeps happening 4/4. there are no errors or fails during the flash and all the steps are being followed verbatim to the guide. just doesn't want to play any discs. sorry for all the ??s had to let it out in my first post!! please help

1.) Re-dump the drives and ensure that the key is indeed correctly flashed.

2.) Clean the laser with a q-tip and alcohol.

3.) Attempt a pot calibration tweak.

4.) Post back here with results :)

It feels so nice. I've been erring on the side of caution for a while reading everything I could about these drives. I contacted all my local modders who declined to even try...one took a shot and tried to give it a go. He gave up. My new XBOX was still within a few days of purchasing...took it back to the store (they had a sale and gave me three free games on top of the credit) and returned it claiming errors but I ended up trading for an identical console, brought it home to see the exact same drive sitting in it. Sighed. So last night I opened the console up again and gave it a run through myself. The first pass went well...failed the second time because I mistimed the tray position. Tried again, failed first pass. On the next try everything went off without a hitch and I was in awe. The only thing that was kind of off was when I was in "write" section of the tutorial and the write failed! I gasped thinking my run was over. I decided to try writing again and it succeeded! I walked through everything else and finished.

I powered on the console and put in a regular game. It read it fine and I was able to play! Now, comes the part on where I learn to rip copies properly.

At this point, since the 360 sees and uses the drive to play regular games I can assume a backup will work out ok since everything succeeded in flashing, correct? Or is there still a chance I cannot play backups?

Thanks.

Yep, that is a completely valid assumption.

If your drive will not play backups, one of two things happened -- either you flashed the drive with the wrong firmware (original instead of iXtreme) or your laser is not strong enough to read backup discs. To ensure against #2, use Verbatim discs for their superior readability for your burner.

I wouldn't worry about backups not working, however.

Also, a word of advice. Making your own rips is definitely the safest and most ethical way of using your new firmware. However, it does require special equipment (a drive flashed with Kreon or 0800 firmware, or a regular DVD drive that is physically modified), and special knowledge. ABGX is very, very good assurance that the rip of the game you are playing is safe, no matter what the source of it was. While I would never, ever, eeevveerrrr advocate piracy, of course, you could potentially have 10 games downloaded by the time you learned to rip 1, for much less of a price tag.
