been using shrink to compress and nero to burn on an Iomega burner at 4x speed. but lately, every time I compress to fit and burn at 4x speed, I burn coasters - everything plays fine until about the last 1 or 2 minutes and then it all goes to hell. But if I burn at 2.4x all seems ok. What's the deal??? Like I said, it's only been happening recently - using same versions, same blank media, etc. Do I have a firmware issue on the burner? How can I check what's happening? thanks fellas

about 20 good burns. using Ultra 4x DVD+R. I guess I can start using 2.4x, but it turns a 14 minute burn into a 25 minute burn - not the worst thing in the world. but more importantly, I'd like to figure out what went wrong!!!

catz7,
Using cheap media is the answer - in order to burn at the highest speed and have a good results you'll need either Ritek G04 OR Verbatim (Branded) media.
You can reduce the numbers of errors while burning cheapo media by burning at a reduced speed. It takes longer but, you?re saving money.
1.* Cheap media skips and stutters, freezes, fuzzules, pixelats, palpitates, partially jams, partially rams, won?t play, won?t burn or won?t be accepted, may be rejected and even our old standby, refuses to be recognized. :-( (The preceding evokes LL)
Inexpensive media is great for text, Data, Spreadsheets, .Jpg and .Gif pictures and is good even for MP3 music BUT for DVD backups - BLAaaaaaT! It SUCKTH in an extremely Big-th way !
2. A good grade media is needed for DVD reproduction !
Ritek G04's or Verbatim are what we?re looking for OR any media boasting ?Advanced AZO Metal Dye?, this indicates a superior dye application, while they are a bit ?pricey? they are acceptable.
cheers,
Pete

i finally burned a dvd using dvd-video in Nero 6, but it won't play in my standalone dvd player. its a panasonic & says it plays dvd-rv31, the dvd however will play on my computer fine though. I did burn a dvd that plays in my standalone but that was with the software that came with the burner, but that software wont let you burn VOB files only avi's.
When i try to burn in the dvd-rom iso part of Nero it always fails half thro & gives me a error that reads"tdk dvdrw0404n command sequence error"
Can anyone help me with this? I'd very much appreciate it, feel free to email me at flav027@aol.com That's zero 27
Can someone please help?
Thanks,
Jason

Jason,
You should read the forum rules, no em's - it's for your good -
Did you burn your DVD using -R media ?
That's what your player plays -
Your PC will play anything, -R or +R.
Sounds like it's time you looked at the guides here -
You want DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. With those two and Nero you can burn in ISO or VOB mode. Trim your movies, put a couple of DVD's on a single disk if you want -
You want to use DVD Decrypter to burn ISO mode -
(also read these threads, tons of topics and directions that will guide you)
Welcome to our forum,
Pete

Hey pete,
Thanks for getting back to me, I used your Nero 6 profile, & it always fails in the middle. only with the dvd-video can it burn completely, that way tho i can only view it on my comp not on my standalone player, same thing happened when i burned thro dvdshrink
because i burned 1 with my dvdburner software & it did play in my standalone, so I know my player can read thee dvd-r's. so can you think of any reason I'd get that error that was im my last post? should i try a diff vers of Nero?
Thanks for all your help:-)

thanks Pete, the DVD+R's I was using were actually more expensive than the Ritek and Verbatim. But no matter, I'll stick with your advise. thanks again

jason,
I always use Nero in the classic mode using DVD Video - when burning ISO's I use DVD Decrypter - (you have to set DVD Shrink to ISO mode to do it -)
Just for the heck of it, rip with DVD Shrink and process using Nero recode 2, see if that works better -
Cats,
Very cool there my friend, saving $$$$ is good !!
