Lately, ive been running all my ps2 games on my ps3, in order to prevent having to switch back and forth on the TV with this wire that wire. Then, lately, ive been reading up online about how to run all the ps2 games, with swap magic, on the ps3, on a USB hard drive.

Being staggered that this was possible already, i bought Swap Magic (3.6 Plus), and got USB Advance. I popped my ps2 games into my computer, converted them and installed them to hard drive, installed the .elf file, and got started.

I have everything working up to the point where i load the games. I have the .elf files working (from the ps2 virtual memory card), and when i try to load a game (for instance, ff12, ffx-2, the path of neo), the screen just stays black. Sometimes, for a game like ff12, the game loads partially (to the starting graphics), and then freezes.

What im wondering is, is this just a problem with compatability, or is it something im doing wrong? Do games need to be patched, or do i just suck at life? :D

I have a NTSC-U 60gb launch ps3.

Thanks in advance.

looked through it. Very helpful. Tried everything it said, but still have the problems. Still dark screens, but im assuming it has to be a compatability issue. I've tried using versions .01, .02, .03, and .03 with Modhook.

Have you tried using version 0.2b? Some say that's the most compatible version. Also, if you've got any experience coding/programming, then the source files are also available from Haxnetwork.

Furthermore, some of the games simply don't work. Have you checked the compatibility lists? There are bound to be a couple of them lying around all over the net. (I'd try looking in Haxnetwork first, though.)

I guess ill try using .02b then, im assuming the .02 i have isnt the 'b' version.

Also, ive tried looking up the compatability forms, and i see things that should work that just dont. But, who knows. Maybe its the wrong list?

Ill continue looking. Thanks for the input.

If you don't mind doing a hard mod then do the swap switch.

so much work to do. Plus, on top of that, i'd have to reburn everything. I already have the hardware for the USB way.

But, if this doesnt work any better (so far 2 games work) i'm going to have to try it.

There is an easier way instead of fluffing about get your self an AV Selector like this one, this ones a 3 port so you can connect 3 consoles, the output is on the other side,to switch from ps2 to ps3 slide the switch simple as

Even the games that do run with USB advance lag pretty bad. Get a hacked PS2 or do the swap switch. The idea was cool, but it just wasn't meant to be. I tried it, got very disappointed and installed the swap switch. I would recommend the AV selector if you already have a hacked PS2. There are too many rules to follow with the swap switch, and you will need some basic electronics exposure in order to install the mod.
