I don't know about you but I think its time that Microsoft is finally getting the hang of our Modded consoles.

I'm actually quite happy that my xbox w/ iXtreme FW RROD'd just in time before the ban wave hit us. I've had that console modded since last October. Just now I bought Left 4 Dead and I bought COD MW2 on the release date. It felt good. Knowing these games I'm going to insert my Xbox will not get me banned. I got sick of being cautious every time I played a new game that was surely to be a hit and Microsoft would have its eyes praying over our Xbox's.

It is going to be a pain in the butt trying to recover all the burnt games I like (10 so far) but eh, Christmas is coming and I'm from a big family. Meaning lots of moolah :)

As I conclude this stupid "farewell" message, I just wanted to say good luck to all the people who have a console with live enabled w/ iXtreme FW and hasn't gotten banned yet.

I'm with you too, no more modding or playing backups again for me also. I had a nice 3 year run on XBL with the backups; but knew it would come to an end and it did today. Thankfully, MS just replaced my 2nd modded RROD console with a new one so won't have to buy a new one. lol, those GameStop buy 2 used games and get 1 free specials suddenly become a lot more appealing.

I honestly feel the same. I had a good 4 month run. I was able to unload my banned console for $150 cash and got to keep my Hard Drive and a Controller. Just replaced it with one from gamestop, only problem the refurbished one they gave me is over 3 years old from manufac. date. Kinda worried about RROD.

Yeah, Microsoft did what they had to do and landed a big right hand to the jaw of the mod scene, but it's a 12 round fight, and as soon as c4eva or someone else stuns Microsoft with an uppercut by releasing a new/better firmware the fight will go on. And on. And on. Like I said, 12 rounds.

.... owning the games has nothing to do with getting banned.. playing backups of games you do own still lands you banned.

Meh... fair-weather modders.

I came up on the FTA scene. There are so many highs and lows with FTA. I see this as a mere temporary setback in the process of modding.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

Huh? It thought we all did? I would hope no one would not play games they don't own. That simply would make no sense.

(...insert short drum roll + crash cymbal here.) Some people may miss the humor after all.

I've been part of the modding/testing scenes for YEARS...all kinds of different things. It's always the same scenario...like marriage, good times and bad times. BUT, that's what makes things so interesting.

These places are comprised of several types of people; People who want a free ride and instant gratification for no effort on their parts whatsoever/ and people who work really work hard to devote their entire lives thirsting for knowledge and the next fix/workaround. The latter of these people are gracious enough to communicate their findings with the rest of us in language that we are capable of understanding.

It's too bad we don't show our appreciation for these people enough and take their work for granted. These are the people who ultimately have the most to lose. So please, before you say goodbye, thank them for their time.

Nothing in this world is unhackable. Everything can be compromised. The only way for the back and forth to end is if one side surrenders.

LOL, yeah I had a good run for sure. I thank all the longtimers like steimy, bhetrick, wabash, ps2menance, etc who I learned about modding from reading their helpful posts years ago. Used the Kreon drive to make the backups of the originals and never played anything early so I felt I was safe as could be. Honestly. I never played any of the non-sports games so it's all good.

qwerty, re: your "fair weather modders" comment...you can take the risk of getting banned for those of us leaving the scene. I think if you have been banned and then go out and buy a new console and then mod it with the latest firmware (which of course will be undetectable, unlike today's firmware), MS is going to watch your new console especially and will be just a matter of time until banned. I'll just buy the games from now on (the GameStop buy 2 get 1 free deals are cool) and not have to worry about it from now on.

Ya I've been in the modding scene for the 360 since the first Xtreme Firmware, and since I'm bant, the PS3 is all I got for now. Money is tight, so I can't spend to buy a new 360.

But as long as the 360 can be modded... I'll keep modding them!

I've been doing 360's since xtreme 4.2 back when the only drives were samsungs and hitachi's and I won't be stopping anytime soon. As soon as the new firmware comes out I will be going to buy a new 360 and flashing it. Honestly there is no real reason to get out of the scene, although you shouldn't be pirating games, since its still young and homebrew is being developed left and right. You will miss out on a lot of things coming out soon.

@ MrGreaser:

In the satellite testing scene the same distinction is made. In that scene they call them "free TVers" vs. "true testers".

Maybe we can start calling the two groups "free 360ers" and "true modders".

I'm no idiot. I am not going to run out and immediately buy a new 360 tomorrow only to get it banned again. It will be some time before that is safe to do again. And even then, it will need to be proven to me that it is safe enough to get my feet back in the water.

I am just saying that I am not ready to throw in the towel just because I got banned from Xbox Live. I got a year and a half of good use out of Xbox Live playing backup games, and it was well worth the cost tradeoff.

I've been interested in the 'scene' since the Commodore 64 days. One little speedbump in the road isn't going to be enough to make me cry 'uncle'.

Of course, by the time I am ready to mod again, I am sure all of these people saying that they are through with modding are going to be posting in these very forums again. They will be begging at that point for all of the latest info about modding, I am sure.

And then when the cat catches this mouse again, we will hear the same "I quit!" stuff all over again... and the cycle continues.

well put. I agree. Once you start modding, it's tough to go back. I have stepped away for modding consoles for a profit. Which doesn't matter since I get a few repairs a week. Homebrew would be a dream come true on the 360. I think by that time though, there will be a new console. Can you imagine a usb loader for the 360? I know, it makes me druel too....

It only costs like $129 to buy a used 360 from GameStop or places like that. Heck, you can pickup RROD boxes from eBay for $30-$40 and fix em up in 40 minutes - flash the drive while they are open - and be back at it in no time.

So why all the sad faces?

Because that may not seem like a whole lot of money, but when you're unemployed, that's money that you can't spend on an xbox! I can handle using my PS3, have mw2 for it so I'm good.

screw you guys :D...ill only buy games which are really worth..mw2 etc...game developers most of the time just release bad/mediocre games with fancy trailers and and hype to fool people into buying them.

I remeber this game total club manager i bought and it was so badly bugged, it not load past a certain date (about 15 mins into the game) they released a patch in 2 weeks(200 mb) was on dial up then and was never able to play it.

ever once in a while there are scares like this but every single time the hackers have won...remember starforce protection for pc...
