Why are you SOL? The only thing you need the console itself for is to maybe provide power. If that is what you need it for, just use a different Xbox. Actually, even the RROD one may provide power to the DVD drive.

For some reason I thought the original motherboard and the original drive had to match up to flash. I have only flashed my benq. Someone else did this samsung for me a long time ago. I do need my original firmware to reflash to 1.61 don't I?

almost 100% sure you just need the dvd key to upgrade the firmware

What exactly does that mean? How would I go about flashing this. On my benq I used DosFlash 32. How do I make the new firmware for the sammy?

Can I just flash ix-161-samsung.bin directly to this?

Yes, 1.61 will do it. You do need the key on the drive and the console to match if you want your console to play burned games. However, you are just removing the drive from the console and putting it in the PC where a key is not required because PCs are not on lockdown like proprietary MS hardware.

Ok...Thanks for getting back to me. Just so I am clear on this, the samsung is never going to play games again. Don't care about that. All I am going to do is hook this drive to my pc, and flash the hacked firmware directly to it without having to mess with the firmware at all. (like having to have original and hacked in same folder and making ixtreme firmware)

oh forgot to mention do I need to power the drive through a 360 or can I power it from my computer instead?

Yes, that is all correct. But actually, dump the firmware first and save it somewhere. Who knows if you will ever want it again and it will only take a minute.

You need to use the console to power the drive. Or a connectivity kit. Or make your own power connector by joining the wires of a molex connector to matching ones on the 360's cable.

Which is better in your opinion. I want to install the drive in my pc and forget about it. What would be the easier route?

Now you need to enable 0800 mode. Read this:
Quote:
Using the Drive in Windows to Read in Xbox and 360 Games:

1. Burn the Enable 0800 ISO onto a DVD5 if you haven't already. It can be found in the upper right hand corner of the "MTK Flash 32" tab in JungleFlasher, as stated previously.

2. Shut down the computer and the DVD drive (or the xbox if you are using it to power the drive).

3. Turn the PC on and enter the BIOS. Once there, power on the DVD drive and put the Enable 0800 DVD into the drive. After about 10 seconds, eject the drive and remove the disc. Exit the BIOS and boot to Windows. (If using the 360 to power the drive, once the PC is off, power the 360, put the DVD in the drive for 10 seconds, remove the DVD, then turn the computer back on and boot to Windows).

4. Once in windows you should be able to see the 360 drive as a normal drive. If you right click on the drive and select "Eject", the 360 drive should respond.

5. Assuming it responds, you are now ready to read in your original games using Xbox Backup Creator or schtrom360xtract.

ok i'm getting frustrated. I downloaded the iso and burned to dvd5
im powering the drive throught the xbox so i shut everything down, turn on the xbox, (while connected to the computer with sata) put in the enable 0800 disc, wait about 10-15 seconds, eject dvd, turn on computer, and nothing happens. do i plug the sata into the main motherboard on the computer or in the chipset sata port i use when i flash? I have tried both with no sucess. anyone have any idea what im doing wrong? how do i know if i have left the enable 0800 disc in long enough?

You are supposed to have the PC on, in the BIOS, when you turn on the drive and use the CD.

can someone please explain what is 0800 vs keron? I have been using keron a while now. That would of made my console banned.
so if I wanted to rip a game for now on I would have to take my xbox apart to get to the dvd rom
Thanks?

Kreon is one type of firmware. 0800 is another firmware, based on iXtreme.

Kreon does not rip the games as accurately as the 0800.

Hey I am sorry, I see that I told you that 1.61 would work. Actually, I don't think there is an 0800 firmware for 1.61 after all. You will need to get the 1.6 0800 version at Xbins.

My bad.

There is a special 0800 version. I am not sure if the regular iXtreme can be converted to 0800 mode or not.

Here is a filename: iXtreme 1.6 0800 firmware BenQ, LiteOn, Samsung Team HyperX

And from the NFO file:
Quote:
Team HyperX Presents IXtreme 1.6 0800 firmware for Benq, Samsung and Liteon drives
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IXtreme fw for Benq, Samsung and Liteon drives!

Features
--------

-Common API designed for easier application use!

-Support for SS V2!

-Direct 0800 mode for game dumping including SS v2!

This firmware is =NOT FOR USE IN A CONSOLE= and is provided
with the intended use of being in a dedicated "ripping" drive.

This means:
a. Does not need your DVD key,
b. Does not need spoofing as another drive,
c. Does not need to use the tray half open and
d. Does not need to use the activate.iso to use this firmware on the pc.

More Info
---------

SS v2 supports multiple timing samples for challenges type 5 and 7, storing them in the SS. This is a pre-requisite for SS v3 which has support for the so called AP2.5 check. Since this has never been used or may never be used by MS we will adopt a wait and see approach and continue to monitor for its usage.

ix16 0800 Commands
-----------------
AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 00 C0 - SS/CPRMAI

AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 ID C0 - SS Challenge ID

12 00 00 00 30 C0 00 00 00 49 58 01 - ix Cmd 1 - Dumps key and rev 0x30 bytes

12 00 00 00 24 C0 00 xx xx 49 58 02 - ix Cmd 2 - Output 0x800 bytes from ram address
