Solution: Firmware Toolbox was installing ixtreme 1.4 and saying it installed 1.51. Wave 4 games will not launch on 1.4 and instead display as DVDs. Used Jungle Flasher with latest firmware package and am now running ixtreme 1.51 with no problems. Thanks to Qwert99 for tracking down the problem and thanks to everyone else who gave advise!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi All!

New to the forum, been browsing for a few days and finally joined, a lot of good information here!

I am hoping someone can help me out as 8 days of searching has not turned up any valid solutions.

Here is my problem:

I am running a Hitachi 0079 with ixtreme 1.51

When I insert a DVD backup my Xbox launches the DVD and the screen goes black. After a few seconds a Grey screen appears with the Xbox logo. When I press buttons on the controller the DVD menu appears and I can't do anything else.

I burn using imgburn

I have tried 2 games, both passed abgx before burning.

I have burned at 2.4x and 4x with same result.

I have used both Memorex & Verbatim (Singapore) Media

I am pulling my hair out at this point, any help or advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Thanks for replying HS!

No I do not have any working backups. I loaded ixtreme about 2 weeks ago and have only tried 2 games (cod4 mw2 and asassins creed 2 as of last night) both 4th wave but from what I understand my 1.51 should have no problem. I have burned probably 12 discs at this point.

Hmmm... maybe you can post a log from IMGBurn. Have you tried running your backups through ABGX, I always do just to make sure everything came out right.

What kind of burner are you using? I'm not sure if IMGBurn automatically booktypes it to DVD-ROM but I always change the booktype or at least verify that the setting for DVD+R DL is set to DVD-ROM.

Good luck. =)

First Post:

I am at work right now I will post a log from imgburn in 2-3 hours.

My burner is a Samsung, I will give exact model with IMGburn log. The firmware has been updated to latest though.

As for manually setting booktype I did try that last night.

Second Post:

Yes my originals still play fine.

Thanks!!

you don't mess with any settings in imgburn. Abgx makes the .dvd file you need to burn properly. Just because a retail game works, doesn't mean a burned game will. What media are you using? If it isn't verb media, forget it. Hitachi's are by far the worst drive put in a 360 and samsuns are second. Both are very picky on what media you use. Otherwise, try doing a POT cal.

I was using Memorex at 4x. I switched to Verbatim (Singapore) at 2.4x. No difference.

What is POT cal?

FYI:

DVD Writer is Samsung SH-S222A SB01 (Latest Firmware)

Here is the abg readout

I am re-burning now and will post imgburn log as soon as it finishes!

Burning with clone CD and I noticed that both imgburn and clone CD are writing at ~4x on 2.4x discs when I am requesting 2.4x speed. Might this be my problem? Do I need a new DVD writer?

Solved my problem.

Last night I re-flashed my drive (For the 4th time) and instead of using ixtreme 1.51 I chose "Ixtreme 1.4 No-Check Bit firmware for 79 Drives"

As soon as I did the ALL of my burned discs worked, even the one done at 8x.

Thanks to all who gave advise!!

Sounds to me like you burned bad rips and the 1.51 firmware refused to boot them because they didn't pass stealth.

Are you using ABGX?

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

qwewrt,

Thanks for the input!

I posted a ABGX log of the iso I used above. It passed all the checks including stealth.

Is it still possible that once burned it becomes un-stealthed?

Also, do I need to care about proper stealthing if I am disconnected network cable while playing?

My bad. I see that you ran the ISO through. Yes, it is possible for the game to 'unstealth' when it is burned to a disc. You can run the disc itself through ABGX as well.

Another reason for this happening is if the layer break is incorrectly set on the disc. Yours look okay, though.

And yes, you need to be concerned about stealth even if you aren't connected to the internet when you play it. Your 360 logs errors and reports them back to the MS servers when you do connect.

The 1.4 firmware is not safe for use in a non-banned console. You can get the same results if you use the activate.iso on 1.51.

I actually burned an activate disc while trying to get the drive to work. The activate disc had the exact same problem as the game discs where it showed up at a DVD.

Thoughts?

I was trying to figure out how to do this. When I go to open in ABGX it seems to look for ISO/DVD/000 files and not the disc.

To get ABGX to read a disc, you need to select the option for it from the drop-down menu. The default is "File".

Very interesting that the activate disc didn't work. That leads me to think that you may have not correctly written the drive key to the firmware when you flashed it with 1.51, but did flash the drive key to the firmware correctly when you flashed it with 1.4. The 'Play DVD' error is the error the console gives when there is a bad drive key as well.

I used the same original dump file & key each time I flashed the firmware both 1.51 and 1.4 and the key displayed the same each time. Only thing I did different is that I used a XP SP2 computer for the 1.4 and an XP sp3 computer for the 1.51

Maybe I should try re-flashing 1.51 from the XP SP2 when I get home?

You can load up your CFW 1.51 firmware bin in JF and double check if the key is present and correct to make sure.

Run the disc itself through ABGX, as well. It could very well be a non-stealth problem as well.

I thought so with the activation disc but I wasn't about to question someone with a lot more experience haha (^_^)

Anyway I will try reflashing when I am home and let you know.

Any other tips before I do?

What read speed should I choose? Is the 1.4 no-check reading at 12x?

Before you flash again, just check the CFW. If the CFW is correct, chances are that your initial flash was good. If the CFW isn't correct, chances are that it was not.

Also, check the disc in ABGX.

Reflashing isn't something you want to be doing a lot of on a Hitachi, since it can be bricked by a bad flash.

If you use 1.4, then yes, you should choose 12x speed. If you don't want to get banned, though, I recommend not using 1.4.

JF = Jungle Flasher I assume?

I have been using 360FW-Toolbox-v4.8 as it was recommended in the 0079 flash guide I used.

Do I use Jungle Flasher instead of 360F-Toolbox?

If so can someone link me to instructions for JF on 0079FL? (i.e. do I still need to use 79unlock music crack to flash?)

Sorry if I am asking stupid questions, first time doing this.

Thanks!
