Just thought I would give everybody a heads up. If anybody has been following Team Jungle, you probably already know this. This is the latest from Team Jungle:

Quote:
Note: backups need to have SplitVid from now on to be safe for LT
So if any of you have backups that doesn't contain SplitVid, you will need to re-burn your ISO with SplitVid. There is an option in ABGX to correct the ISO. SplitVid was irrelevant previously because the firmware handled it. But now with iXtreme LT, SplitVid is a requirement.

For those of you wondering what SplitVid is, here is some great info from ABGX. Note: this info about SplitVid was before iXtreme LT.

Quote:
If you put an Xbox 360 disc in a normal DVD video player you will see a screen that says, "To play this disc, put it in an Xbox 360 console." This happens because there's a DVD video partition on the disc which is split over both layers on original discs. On normal backups the video partition is all on layer 0, and hacked firmwares are supposed to redirect reads to the layer 1 video back to layer 0. However, it was discovered that some hacked firmware versions prior to the release of iXtreme were not doing this properly, and if the Xbox 360 host tried to read the entire video partition, the second part of it would be blank because the firmware started reading from layer 1 instead of continuing to read from layer 0 like it was supposed to. One solution to this problem was called SplitVid, and it works by appending the layer 1 video to the end of an iso (padded up to the proper position based on PFI) so that when these buggy firmwares start reading from layer 1 they will actually read the layer 1 video instead of blank data. The better solution is to simply upgrade your firmware to the latest iXtreme version because these old firmwares have even more security holes, even if you have a perfectly stealthed disc. iXtreme versions prior to v1.4 also have a bug in disc jitter (see 'Is there such a thing as a "bad kreon rip"?' for more on this). If you still want to add SplitVid (or even if you want to remove it) you can select your preference in the Misc tab. The default behavior is to not check for it and just leave it the way it is, because if you're using iXtreme firmware it doesn't matter if a backup has SplitVid or not; data past the game partition will not be readable by the Xbox 360 host.

Does XBC automatically do the splitvid thing? I always use that to rip then burn my backups.

Yes, XBOX Backup Creator should always rip the game and have proper SplitVid. Other programs like Schtrom 4.1 allow you to either rip with SplitVid or without.

I think i'll stick with 1.61 as my console is banned and I don't want to re-burn my games again...too many to burn. Will backups still work with LT?

I'm assuming backups without SplitVid will work, they just won't be as safe.

wonder if "all drives" means for the hitachi's too? So if abgx is set to "leave as it is" then we're good? I would think that would be a waste of time LOL

You will need to change the setting in ABGX to "Add it if it doesn't exist or is invalid".

I'm guessing now with SplitVid being a requirement with iX LT firmware, ABGX will probably do away with the "Leave it the way it is" and "Remove it if it exists" options.

Just some. It depends how the game was ripped. If the ISO is 7.05 GB then it doesn't have splitvid. If it's 7.29 GB then it does. The last dozen games I've downloaded all have splitvid and are 7.29 GB, but you'll still need to go back through your collection of backups and check them all.

so I assume, the game will not work? I would hope not, so it doesn't throw a red flag. Thanks guys.

Which leads me to ask a question I have been wondering for a long time, and especially since the ban wave...

Does anyone have a script or a program that allows you to ABGX check every ISO file in a folder/subfolders? Having a script that just output your log results for each game to the end of a text file would sure be nice for rescanning large game collections through ABGX. If ABGX ever decides to add a fix for rips with invalid SS v1 files (when they should be ss v2), this script would certainly come in handy again.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

I'm assuming that copies without splitvid will boot on Lite Touch as it sounds like they're removing the checks that the current firmware does so that LT will react just like the original firmware, other than being able to boot copies obviously. The Twitter post says that you need splitvid to be "safe for LT" rather than to "work with LT".

If it won't boot non-splitvid games then they'd be useless to you anyway. I'm hoping that it will boot games regardless of splitvid because I'd rather that they leave it up to the user to make sure that their backups are OK, rather than blocking games for certain reasons. I have an offline only box, so I'd like a firmware that boots everything. If I end up flashing my online box then I'll make sure that backups are 100% right before I play them.

You may as well upgrade so you wont have to use the activate disk.

This implies that they will still work but arent safe.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you want, but you can do that sort of thing without a script. All you need to do is make sure that all of your ISOs are in one folder, rather than in sub-folders within a certain folder and then choose "Directory" from the Input drop-down list in abgx360 and select the folder containing the files. It will then check/fix every ISO in the folder sequentially, but it creates one big log rather than separate ones.

LOL. You don't need the activate disc if you're on 1.6.1

Chaps,

Am I correct in thinking to check if your disks are already split vid would be to bung them in a DVD player or DVD ROM drive in a PC and see if it plays the "To play this game please insert into a 360" or am I well off lol?

Thanks.

Wow, thanks for the tip. I had tried it before, but because it didn't check subfolders, I just wrote it off. It never occurred to me to just put all of the ISO files into one main folder. Guess I wrote it off before really thinking about it as a possibility.

At this point, though, I really am completely uncomfortable using non-known rips at all, ABGX be damned. The SS v1/v2 thing is a pretty glaring gap in the security of using burned games.

That doesn't check for splitvid. That just shows you that the video partition is there and contains the video file. All backups should have that, even if they're not splitvid. On original discs, the video partition is split over both layers of the disc. With non-splitvid backups it's just on the first layer.

You would need to either run the disc through abgx360, or rip it with ImgBurn and then run the ISO through abgx360. Checking games from disc is pretty slow, so you're probably better off using ImgBurn to create an ISO, especially as if the backup doesn't contain splitvid you'll need to create an ISO anyway in order to fix it and reburn.

You'll need to check them in ABGX. Just changed the option in ABGX to Burned DVD and you can check with your PC drive.

My bad, was thinking for new wave games. I know the PFI in wave 5 is the same as wave 4 games, but that doesnt mean wave 6 will be.
