didnt know exactly which forum to ask in but.... in dvd shrink if i have 5.1 ac3 audio selected, do i need the 2 channel at all? will a normal tv with 2 speakers be able to output any of the 5.1? Thanks.

Hi magicwad ,

The 5.1 is intended to a sound machine with a specific 5.1 input (a so-called home theatre system). But a DVD player can turn the 5.1 audio into a stereo audio. That's why you can hear the movie on a TV or a regular sound machine.

If a DVD contains both 2-ch and 5.1-ch audio tracks, they are likely to be different stuff. For example, 2 different languages, or the movie's sound track and the director's comment.

Thus you can get rid of the 2-ch audio if you're not interested in its content. Don't be afraid to keep only 5.1 audio. You'll still be able to hear the movie with your TV.
