I have a modded 360 that i have played modded games online on since last year around this time, and have yet to get banned. I have played MW2 btw

The second I heard of the Ban wave (october 28,2009) I turned off my modded 360, and haven't booted it up since.

My question:
1)If I flash orginal firmware to it, will I be fine?

2)Is it possible that I'm already banned?

3)What would you do If you wan't to save this xbox from getting banned?

1. Flashing the original firmware won't do anything if your console is already flagged (according to members on here).

2. If the console is flagged, then as soon as you go online it will be banned.

3. You really only have two options. Either keep playing offline, or go online and find out. If you go with option 2, I would recommend having a spare 360 on hand just in case you are indeed banned.

Is there anything I should restore? Like should I clear the hard drive of all data?

Im going to flash Original Firmware on it before i log into live. Then check to see if im banned. If im banned I'll just load xtreme firmware on it.

If the console is flagged, it does not matter what you do. Microsoft basically has sent like an E-Mail to your console, and once you open it up (connect to online), the ban message appears in your face. Going back to the original firmware, clearing the cache, etc. will do nothing other then waste your time. If you are really concerned with playing online, then again I would advise you to get another 360 just in case you are banned.

If you flash to original firmware and go online, let me know how it went. Im in the same situation with a lite on 73850

hope i'm not too late, but a way to check if your banned is to go to xbox.com and request a repair you should get a generic error, and not be allowed to fill out the repair form as you normally would(note that when i tried this my console had already been added to the list of consoles related to my gamertag, i'm not certain if it's already banned if your allowed to still register it to your gamertag)

Don't check the banned status by connecting to xbox live. When you're banned you will get that f*****g HDD lock. That'll annoy you badly!

Is there even a point to flash original firmware?

Because no one has really acted like that is a good idea. Will that even protect me?

And yes im checking my repair status on xbox.com before I do anything.

I would say there's no point in flashing the original fw.
Btw, if you have a liteon drive you cannot flash the original fw, it's not possible. Anyway, you're either already banned or you are not. If you are not I would wait for the new firmware and play online again (But you have to be perfectly sure that you're not banned before connecting to live ever again).

Aiur answered your question twice already. Let me say it once more.

No, flashing to the original firmware will NOT help at all. The ONLY way to find out if you are banned is to connect to Live and find out. Flashing will not affect that because you get flagged and banned on Microsoft's end, based on information ALREADY sent by your console.

The reality is a little more complicated than that but plain and simple, there ya go.

Ok guys so i Finally got the balls, so i went for it. I went from 1.6 to CFW to 7485 OFW. Went online (HDD disconnected) and BAM..no ban (yet). I currently dont have GOLD membership which might make a difference (idk). But im online. Managed to download some demos. and still online. Like i mentioned before, i managed to go offline from mid - october, i had no GOLD by that time also.

Flashing method (may be it made a difference)

1.went online without drive connected to console
2.Updated
3. Flashed back to stock
4. Xbox live up and running. :D

ima give it sometime before i upgrade to gold

Doesn't mean the wave continues, just means he was already flagged for the recent bans.

There isn't some magic point where if you were flagged it'll suddenly be safe to go online again.

But how do we know they aren't still flagging consoles. He may not have been flagged initially, but as soon as he went online recently that is when microsoft proceeded to flag and then ban him.

This happened today:

12/2: Pulled a console out of "storage" (pre-flashed w/ iXtreme 1.6 back in 5/2009). Last time the console was connected to Live was back in June.)
12/2-3: No ethernet cable connected. Flashed back to original stock fw.
12/3-6: Played several retail games offline. No ethernet cable connected. (eg. Smackdown 2010, MW2, Operation Flashpoint).
12/7: Played retail "Rogue Warrior". Accepted game update.
12/8: Plugged in ethernet cable. Silver account. Selected "Connect To Live". BANNED!!! Immediate ban on a console not connected to Live since June '09.

Conclusions:

- M$ started flagging systems earlier than speculated.
- Firmware is detectable (as many believe).
- Played backups are stored on motherboard memory.
- Shouldn't have been RW game update since it was read with stock fw.
* Perhaps fw modification dates are logged on the drive's PCB board and may not match the motherboard's date (most PC functions do keep a log ... just a wacky thought).

Oh well ... guess it's time to snatch a 2008 virgin console out of the stack and wait for LT. Until then, offline 1.61 for me!

What drive was in there?
did you read my post? I updated the dashboard with the drive disconnected, then flashed it to stock (powered by 360) and went online. (no ban) may be that made a difference?
Ive been playing baackups for almost a year

Should I start a new thread or run with this one?

Will I get banned if I 1) cut a hole in the side of my case big enough to run an SATA connector out the side, spoof a second DVD drive to look like the first, mod the second DVD drive to play backups, and then alternate between playing original games/DVD online and backups/modded DVD offline?

One of the previous posters mentioned:

"- Played backups are stored on motherboard memory. "

Is there any indication that this is true.... that MS might be storing information about offline activity and relaying that information once online?

I believe this is true because i've been told that your are safe from the ban if u play modded games offline" is a myth. Ppl who played modded games with no connection to the internet have been banned once they connect

Ah, but I am talking about playing offline with a disconnectable DVD drive with modded firmware. Those consoles that YOU are talking about might have only played backup games off line, but they played original games online with modded firmware.
