Ok i have not seen a simple way to boot a game from the xbox HDD or from an external hard rive plugged in via usb.

On the xbox360 you can now back up a disk to your HDD but you still need it to boot it. The only reason the disc is needed is so it doesnt turn out like the playstation2 were you can just rent the game and back it up and continue to play it after you return it.

It is a very simple restriction were the xbox reads a little part of the disc to verify that you have a legit game disc. Now if someone could just figure out what its looking for when it checks the disk(im sure there is some code on each disc it is looking for) and we took like a copy of that code and every variant possible of that code im sure a universal boot disc for all the games could be made so as long as you had the back up on the HDD you could boot it and it would read the disc and no matter what the game was it would exept the disc as the origanal and play it from the HDD.

Sounds possible, but no one has done it yet so it must be harder than it seems.

Dude, you are funny. I said "it must be harder than it seems". Then you say "I could do it but I'm having trouble finding what the xbox is looking for".

Psst............ that means that it's harder than it seems.

Man, you're too funny. Yeah, ok... as you say it's not that hard. That's why no one has found a way to do it without homebrew.

Yes. In fact not only can you play from the hdd without a disc in the drive, but you can also use any size and type of hdd.

cool someone else as asked this iv been wanting something like this as i know it can be done as the person who did the snes emulator for the 360 has set it out like the installs are i am pretty sure its just the link file that needs to be edited or newly created to get the already installed games to work with out the disk i would love for something like this as it saves space when games are installed with the dash and not like xexloader with the dash it compresses the install to save space as xexloader don't this would be so great once done as i know very well it can just a shame i don't know how to do this s**t my self or i would of done so already lol

Two more questions regarding homebrew. Can achievements be earned on your profile while playing 360 games? I looked at the tutorial and it involves soldering which I'm pretty bad at. Anyway, my dashboard is newly updated and cannot be jtagged. However, I don't mind buying a new 360 because I could use my current one for xbox live. Do new 360s come with the new dashboard updates or how old would a 360 have to be to be jtaggable?

The only thing im having trouble with is reading the disc on my PC. M$ makes it were it cannot be read but obvousily since there are torrents with the game someone had found a way around it.

I have a few questions about hombrew as well...If i use it will i get banned from live? Can i use an external hard drive(such as a seagate hard drive) to save games and profiles and such.

Any pc dvd drive can read 360 games, but they won't rip the data contained in the bca. For that you can do one of the following; use your 0800 enabled 360 drive, use a Samsung pc drive flashed with Kreon, or just rip the game with any pc dvd drive and then patch it with ABGX.

Using homebrew on LIVE is a guaranteed ban. It's already happened.

You can earn achievements. New consoles with a mfr date after June-ish of '09 do have the updated dash. You don't want any 8-series dash. And even if you do find a 7-series dash, or earlier, you do still have to dump the nand to make sure your cb is exploitable.

New console can still be found. I just got a brand new, April '09 Arcade with Jasper mobo, 512 onboard memory, and the 74850 Lite On drive off Ebay for less than retail. You just have to look. There are people who do sell them according to the mfr date because they know buyers are looking for them.

hmmm m8 not any PC drive can rip 360 games iv been there done that nothing iv tried works the copy protection stops you from ripping an original disk only already ripped and burned disks will be able to be ripped from any drive

as for flashing look up lflash and the Gentoo v2 disk for xbox 360 you need to ltp xell on nand before you can boot it its the safest way to to flash and the fastest just make sure you have a working backup of nand before attempting to flash xell if you don't and it breaks your basically f**ked but back to the topic of converting already installed games to play with out disk and not with xexloader or shortcut method

Did you read what I wrote?

You disagreed with me but then supported what I said. All in the same sentence.

Any pc dvd drive will, in fact, rip a 360 game. Google wxripper. And like I also said the first time, the game will then need patched with abgx.

bhetrick:

So do we still need to do a hot swap??? I wasnt sure why we needed to hotswap if any dvd drive would rip it. I understand the part of using abgx to patch it, but I am still not sure if what you are saying means we no longer need to hotswap using wxripper. I havent tried any of this yet and have just been reading so far. BUT it seems the majority of the old posts say it is easier to buy a kreon dvd rom drive. But if I can just use the same old dvd burner I have for ripping and burning, then perfect.

Do not use Kreon or wxripper, you dont get all the info from the disk and will end up getting you banned.

Use a xbox DVD drive connected to your PC with 0800 firmware, only 100% way to get a true rip.

All the old wxripper guides are still correct.

As for not getting all the info, that's why you patch with abgx. As for getting banned, every backup method still resulted in people being banned.

Myself, I always recommend using an 0800 enabled 360 drive to rip backups. But that wasn't what we were talking about. We were talking about using any pc drives.

But those xbox dvd drives are do not just plug into your pc motherboard like pc dvd drives do they? I thought you had to make a special power cable or something. And which xvox dvd drive is the best for flashing with the 0800 firmware?

My xbox is already banned by the way so its really not an issue. I just want to prolong my dvd drive for as long as possible.

You misunderstood me. I meant that as a joke.

It would be nice to have it hacked and not be banned, but unfortunately everyone who was running this hack (running homebrew) did get banned from LIVE.
