Don't beat yourself up even experienced overclockers get parts that don't always go the way they would like them. You're doing a great job so be happy with what you're learning. You'll find a tweak here and there that will make all the difference. RAM plays a big part in the story but as abuzar said even at 3.2 GHz it's a powerful PC, and I for think that you will go higher in time. I built my PC only 8 days ago and I'm still playing with settings.

thanks man
i will try some more things but 3.375ghz seems to be stable and good enough.....its just that when i bought the CPU, i wasn't really doing it for the extra cores, i was doing it mostly for overclocking it higher than the E6300 I had before...

As a rule quad cores don't overclock as easily as dual cores but what you get is a processor that is till quite powerful. In fact on an application that runs 4 threads my system wouldn't have chance for overall speed.

OK.. that does it... I'll get mine out and see what I can do with it tonight if the kiddies cooperate. lol. I have a Striker Extreme and a Q6600 with DDR2 1066 RAM. ;) Wish me luck and the beauty is I can read over what Soph has recommended and apply it to my situation.
Thanks to im1992 and Soph for your time and efforts. :)

keep us posted
i am very interested in your results as we have both the same motherboard and almost the same CPU...i wanna see how much of a difference the ram makes....

well
i think it IS the CPU thats holding me back cause the motherboard can do 350mhz fsb stable but the cpu won't run at 10x multiplier
so basically it can't do 3.5ghz....
i guess 3.375 isnt too bad....for now
its funny.....when i first got my e6300, i could only overclock to 2.6ghz with 1.35v but as time passed, i increased the cpu speed 100mhz every month till it ran stable at ~3.1ghz with only 1.15v
is it possible that you "break in" a CPU and it gets better in overclocking? or did i just get better at setting the BIOS up right?
and will newer BIOS versions make the overclock go higher?

its weird 3.375ghz seems extremely stable but if i try to go even a little higher, everything fails.....so i guess i will be sticking with this speed unless greensman comes up with something better with different settings.....

IIRC it's 1503 as well. ;)
The GM isn't having good luck right now... for some reason it won't post... I just put a NEW gpu in and it should be working like a champ!!! Gonna do some moving around and see what the issue is. ;)

I'm trying to find out if there is any way I can overclock my CPU with this set up. I've tried software like SoftFSB, CPUFSB, and Clockgen but i can't get them to work since I have 64bit or Vista. Bios I can overclock very little and won't stay, I know my Mobo sux for overclocking only able to change voltage and multipler no higher then 10x and FSB won't stay when i change it to anything but 200mhz. I know my mobo supports 1066mhz and my current is only 800mhz.
Vista 64bit Ultimate
ECS P965T-A Rev B
Intel Pentium E2180 Dual Core 2.0Ghz
2GB Dual channel DDR2 667 PQI brand

lol orthos on mine died after 2 hrs
it needs to be stable at least 8 hours for me to use 24/7
now i am at 3.1ghz.....lets see where i can get this stable
O..O..is your computer not even posting on STOCK CPU speed with the new GPU?
BTW, what GPU did you get?!?!?!

@traft
you got a real gem there (the e2180 usually easily overclocks to 3ghz...) First of all, back your CPU Multiplier and find the highest stable FSB (Front Side Bus) your motherboard can do....
@everyone else
now i know what you guys are thinking.....ECS...not good for overclocking but i have taken my P4 630 to 3.6ghz stable 24/7 on the ECS 915p-a so i do not believe that the manufacturer of the motherboard has anything to do with overclocking...although i did take the same CPU to 4.1ghz 24/7 stable on my Striker, the 3.6ghz overclock was nothing to be sneezed at...

I have tried changing it to 266 or 333 fsb in the bios and it won't save it just disables it every time even tried to lower the multipler to the lowest 6 and then change the fsb but still wouldn't work. As for modding the chip i have to really look into and learn about it never tried that before.

LOL, no offense Imran, but that right there is just plain WRONG. I'd like to see you OC on Intel boards ;)
Oh and You took a E2180 to 4Ghz 24/7 STABLE? Man that pretty much makes you a pro right there.

EEEEKKKKK
looks like i need to re-seat the actric cooler freezer 7 pro, but ill need some new thermal paste first.

lol, i said P4 630....
i see what you mean about Intel Motherboards but those are just limitations that Intel intentionally put on their lower class motherboards.....i mean, if you have something like a Bad Axe 2, you would have no problems overclocking...i have heard some pretty bad stuff about ECS motherboard so i was just trying to say that they aren't all that bad....

i have just ordered some OCZ freeze, which is non conductive, and hopefulyl better than the MX-2 that i am using now. (i know how the epms are messed up. my bro put on the freezer 7 pro the rong was round, so i took it off, and put it the corrtect way. but i didnt have extra TP so i left it like as it was. now with some proper thermal paste, and it being seated properly, im sure it will OC just fine.

as of now stable at 3.2ghz with 1.45v CPU voltage
i think that if this works, i will just stay at this speed...
its at 356FSB x 9 = 3207mhz as of now
lol, about a 100mhz better than my e6300
not too bad but still, a HUGE disappointment...
