Windows 7 reaches 90 million in sales

According to Microsoft CFO Peter Klein, the software giant has sold over 90 million copies of the Windows 7 operating system.
Windows 7 hit retail shelves in October and has critically been a success.
Adds the official Microsoft blog post: "We're humbled and excited that people are responding so positively to Windows 7 - our customers have made it the fastest selling operating system in history."

congrats microsoft. for once you made an operating system worth while,though not yet worth buying with those steep prices..ill stick to my non legitimate copy for at least the next 12 months :)

Messed up Vista, fixed it, renamed it Windows 7, and calling it a new OS. Forcing people that have bought Vista to have to buy Windows 7 to get the fix. Now proclaiming to have sold 90 million copies, how shameless...

thats one way to look at it. indeed i think vista was more like the beta version of windows 7..thats why you shouldve tried a demo of it or pirate a copy to see how it is instead of wasting money on it before knowing if its any good.personally ive never had vista on my machine cause i saw how bad it was on my friends machine with 2gigs of ram.
uh well microsoft might take some time but at least they deliver..eventually.
P.S no i dont think what microsoft did with vista was right and no i dont think they have a customer-friendly policy regarding their products.

Windows 7 is great, had a good press and support all around...
Vista wasnt good, and everyone knew, so if u pay for it anyways(besides the people buying new PCs) is ur own fault!
even vista is a much stable with new upgrades and tweeks...

Windows 7 is what Vista should have been. Runs very smooth with zero problems on my computer as an upgrade install from Vista. Well worth the $40 I paid on it's first day of release with the coupon I got from my local Microcenter. And yes the software I bought was 100% legal. Runs with all of my software. The only one I had to update was my Zonealarm firewall but then I had to buy a new printer since the old one didn't have Win 7 drivers available to me. Am I happy with Win 7? You bet!!

Problems with old software and hardware? Try dual boot... u don't loose ur old OS when upgrading... I highly recomend if u have the extra hdd space.

I'd rather upgrade any affected hardware & software first then replace the old operating system with the new one. Works for me!!

Just bought my first Win7 machine, an Asus 1201n, and Win7 is a definite winner. I don't pirate, nor do I serve as quality assurance for major software releases of any kind, because I depend on software to get work done. So I missed Vista. No one I knew liked it, and you'd have to force my local guru at gunpoint to install it. I feel for all the beta testers who spent money on Vista, but a $trillion and 100K typing... people... finally did produce an operating system truly worthy of being called such (I suspect the geeks kicked Balmer out of the lab). Now if they could just make a browser...

Well Lexmark wouldn't release Win 7 drivers for it's x63 printer plus I wanted the ability to print directly onto DVD's & CD's so I bought the Epson RX680 & it runs perfect on Windows 7. That was the only hardware ugrade that I needed.

Vista came out because MS wasn't going to be able to release what they WANTED to (Win7) in a timely fashion and shareholders were getting bitchy, so they 'not-as-retardedly-as-WinMe' kludged together what they could to release SOMETHING. I live in Seattle and know numerous people at MS or have relatives who do and even THEY had referred to the name "Vista" as meaning "a VIEW of what the new OS will be." :-)
I too would like to see breakdowns of sales (retail vs. OEM copies), which MS seems to be very reluctant to divulge since Vista came out.
Anyway, no matter what anyone else thinks about all this, MS should have done the decent thing by offering ALL Vista users free Win7 upgrades instead of just the people who got Vista a few months before Win7 came out.

This is just a Marketing Tactic to show good faith with revenue back.
I have 3 Pc's with the last 3 diff OS's that work real good with diff. programs and I am happy as long I can get them for free.

Before anyone makes a rash statement, I have used Windows since 1993; Win 3.0 and Dos 5 and was perfactly happy with XP, but they killed it.
