Rival Xbox 360 had 73 percent connected, and the Nintendo Wii came in third at 54 percent.
Although it is the leader, the number for the PS3 is actually surprisingly low given the fact that ... [ read the full article ]

2000 people polled doesn't seem many considering the population size of the U.S,makes me wonder just how much stock can be placed in the poll

Take it with a grain of salt like any other sample survey. I'm sure it's relatively correct in at least saying PS3 then 360 then Wii users are all connected from greatest to least percentage though. The difference of users connected between 360 and PS3 is probably close like it says though.
Nintendo sucks at doing anything with their internet connectivity. They need more game demos... They have only had the one set of WiiWare/Wii demos since the Nintendo channel came out. At the same time... most people didn't get a Wii because it could connect to the Internet though.

alot ofit most likely has to do with the fact that xbox chardes for their online service so users that dont wanna pay don't connect where as ps3 users all can use online for free so more connect. And than the wii I don't think there really is a reason to connect but to buy an occassional super mario bros :)

This survey was done before Sony decided to prevent a large portion of their user base from connecting to the PSN...Sony won't even let me go to their store to give them money! I bet the numbers would be different if the survey was done today...

do you think this has something to do with the "forced" updates?

I'm sure that microsoft's low numbers are at least partly related to all their remote-bricking...now sony is taking steps to prevent people from connecting too. I'm giving geohot a few more days...then I am going to put my PS3, accessories, and games on ebay...and spend the profits on PC parts.

Just because Sony removed the OtherOS feature?
It's pretty a nice feature but I don't see it being the key point of the PS3.
But then again, I'm not you so maybe you do use Linux a lot?

I'm surprised to see the 50% number for the Wii users... WOW! Powering on the Wii doesn't count as on-line. Did Nintendo released an update for the Wii that allows you to create an on-line tag or something?

You mean PS3 homebrew exploits? Because AFAIK there's none?
Or are you talking about things in Linux?
A little confused here.

Correct. If you break it down though it shows (on paper) that even though the 360 has a lower percentage it has a higher amount ~
360 - 28.47 Million out of 39 Million +/-
PS3 - 27.3 Million out of 35 Million +/-
But if there was a way to show actual working consoles I am sure it would hold true to the articles inference...either way it's damned close for both so it's six or one half dozen of the other.

But what percentage of those 360 users can PLAY games online/have gold. Last numbers that where out said 56% of 360 owners have gold. So if you do the math again.
360 = 15.94 Million
PS3 = 27.3 Million
Ahh, I see what you mean... so if the "56% = Gold users" percentage is correct then it would be more accurate like this ~
360 - 12.53 Million Silver Users out of 39 Million Consoles +/-
360 - 15.94 Million Gold Users out of 39 Million Consoles +/-
360 - 28.47 Million TOTAL Gold + Silver Users online out of 39 Million Consoles +/-
PS3 - 27.30 Million TOTAL Users online out of 35 Million Consoles +/-
