Jim,
No problems, reinstalling Nero AND DVD Shrink again won't hurt. You might want to use the newer version of DVD Shrink. Next, PLEASE consider switching from FAT32 to NTFS (it's a better system), not to worry, there's little chance of you losing your files and you won't have that "Pesky" 4GB limit to worry about.
also -
Check msconfig to be sure you don't have InCD "ticked" in startup. Check registry to see if there is anything that says Roxio, delete that.
Those moves should get you back on stable ground :-)
Pete

Jimbob, if you are trying to do dvd backup, FORGET Nero together, you don't need it. Just use dvdshrink 3.1.7 and dvddecrypter 3.2.2.0
1) open shrink and open disc
2) click "backup!"
3) change the target destination to "ISO Image File"
4) check the box to Launch DVD Decrypter
under "backup options", you can either check or uncheck "perform deep analysis"
5) click ok
again, you don't need Nero. at least give this a try.

ah crap, good eyes michigan. Jimbob if your running 98 you probably are running FAT32. your limited on how big your files are. Ask Scuba Pete how to change from FAT32 to NTFS. He's described a way to do this without losing all your files.

A vote has been taken and the final totals are in - Jimbob, you really need to convert FAT32 to NTFS -
here's the tool to do it with - Partition Magic 8.0

You'll be glad you did -

flip218,
I like to do just one more thing to DVD Shrink before I burn with DVD Decrypter.
In DVD Shrink, go to "Edit", "Preferences" then "File I/O" - then "Untick" the box which says "Enable burning with Nero".
(and while you're in "Preferences", I always adjust "Target DVD size" to Custom, 4279MB - but that's just what I do - - - gives me a bit of "wiggle room" - I never burn to the edge of the disc, - - - - but, - - - that's just what I do - - - -

PS Flip218 and michigan - Back on page one, middle of the page, I already tried to get him to switch -

This NTSC thing is driving me crazy. Jimbob is running windows 98 which comes with fat32 and not NTFS. In this forum of video nuts, I think there must be so many members obsessed with PAL/NTSC and such terms that it tends to confuse us newbies and junior members. Jimbob, I'm sure you had figured this out by now. If you need to switch to the NTFS file system where files are not limited to 4 Gigabytes, get a little program like NTFS for Windows 98 v2.0 from Sysinternals or something similar.

Daddy ScubaPete: My deepest apologies... It isn't a big deal of course. Jimbob had already figured it out. I just love to blabber sometimes...

pudgy,
The max you can fit on a 4.7GB disc is 4.36GB. I like a little "wiggle room" so I personally use 4279MB - why ?? I like that amount of gray at the end of my Green size bar, that's all.
I just finished a guide for DVD Shrink in which I say use the figure of an even 4.3GB OR 4300MB even. Again, giving a bit of "wiggle Room".
If you leave DVD Shrink alone it sizes out at 4464MB - a bit over the 4360MB that the "Experts" suggest -
Many allow DVD Shrink to use it's default of that 4464MB, me - ? In case you haven't figured me out yet, I'm marching to a different drummer -
Peace -
Pete
