The e74 error has a 3year warranty. You can buy a new warranty sticker on ebay if you've damaged yours previously. If it's out of warranty and you want to fix it I believe you need to overheat the GPU not the hana chip. An overheating GPU can cause hana problems. I am no expert so best to wait for someone else.

W00ly has a great video tutorial on here for heat gunning. I've fixed several that way. In the video, he takes you step-by-step through heating it properly. It's not as good as a BGA reflow, but it works pretty darn well.

if you got a flat head screw driver,,you can twist off the clamps with that,,and the heat gun is a good temp fix,,i used it for awhile,,then i spent the money and got a reflow station,,and its like night and day,,every board i got including the ones that i couldnt get back to life with the heat gun,,did with the reflow station,,and are still going strong,,just my 2 cents,,cheers

You can reflow chips with a heat gun...definitely give w00ly's heat gun fix a try...it's very accurate, detailed, and cheap. Some rework stations on the lower end of the spectrum are essentially heat guns with different nozzle attachments and temperature settings that aren't too reliable. If you have one of these cheaper reflow stations, you already know what I mean.

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

hey not taking anything away from the heat gun fix,,i used it for 3 years and it worked for me,,but not on all boards,,you cant regulate the heat and the airflow like you can with the reflow station,,and the station you only heat up reflow what needs to be,,and if your not careful,,the heat gun can kill the board instantly,,i got 4 boards that i tried a few times with the heat gun,,no go,,once on the reflow station,,and now there jtaged and going strong,,just saying since i got the station,,its just a better longer lasting fix,,and i only spent $220 on amazon with the nozzles,,

Oh, I don't take anything away from a reflow station. I guess I should have ALSO stated that if you are only doing your own console, maybe a few friends' consoles, heat gunning is a perfect solution as it is a cheap way for a good fix.

However, if you're doing this for money, you definitely want to work with a reflow station, as well as giving the motherboards TLC where needed (acetone baths, corrosion spots, dust and dirt clumps, replacement caps and resistors). It's a amazing what a bit of acetone and a toothbrush will do...it's one of my aces in the hole.

Also, if people don't have liquid flux around, they could use a bit of acetone to flush under the cpu, gpu, and HANA chips to help clear out tin whiskers and other debris.

I've gotten wicked good with a heat gun, by the way. Anywhere I travel, I'm portable! :D

You need thermal paste on it! I am surprised it works without but don't turn it on again until you put some on.
Arctic Silver 5 is the best around.

yea you definitely should not be turning it on without thermal paste on. A tiny air pocket can cause a very hot spot to build up which will eventually fry your processor beyond repair! Dont skimp dude, just go to your local computer store and get a tube, it's like $3.

I tape the screws and washers on underneath, then put the top washers on and then set the heatsink on. After that, I remove a piece of tape, screw in, rinse and repeat. ;)

No, you shouldn't have! You should of put thermal paste on in the first place. Try the fix again, this time do it properly

If you have to do the fix again you have to take off the thermal paste again right?
