I am trying to convert a movie from a download off Kazaa. Its an avi to be able to burn to cdr but when I open TMPGEnc and find the movie in the browse button, it says that it is unsupported.
When I tried to view the movie first in RealPlayer I could not see a picture but could hear it,it said I had to reinstall the Divx. I downloaded the updated version but still can only hear the movie. Is there a way of saving this movie??

vcd, i have xp pro. I can rename dat to mpg and it does no good for me. The riff headers are there so its not recognised as a full mpeg so cdxa2mpeg does the trick! it brings it back to mpg (nope not with vcd/svcd headers, just either mpeg-1 or mpeg-2).

nik99, unfortunately those black bars are the video stream therefore changing them is almost impossibleand if you tried methods to do so all you would see is a really ugly dtretch with terrible video quality. It's not worth it!!

elmos, Get gspot and check do you have all the appropriate codecs!

nik99, Divx usually actually has low volume. Do you have your volume control up high yes??

Also, VCDEasy would only capture the mpeg from the disk, i dont recall saying it would change it beyond that!

Well I'm not sure about the audio. And those black borders are part of the video stream now so they would be hell to change. I'd really doubt it will work but try clicking setting - advanced and tick the box beside clip frame and then double click, click frame! I'd really doubt you could do anything from there but just see if you can anyway!

Try click setting and click the audio tab. You will see an option to change volume there.

I wouldnt know much about the volume but i'd imagine that if you set it to 200% or something, you'd double the volume!!

thanks mate.sound ok now..at 200%.think we shd just ignore the normalize button..
but original problem still there..black borders..
tried the encoding with clip frame..new problem..removed pixels fm all 4 sides..so picture doesnt stretch..
visual qlty wasnt affected..but guess what..sound went out of sync.
in fact as much as 10 secs..before video..
now how does this happen and how to sort it??

oh god, lol, now please do remember me saying that you could try clip frame, i never said it would work cause i idnt know and in fact I told you it would be hell removing those bar bars!

As for the audio going out of sync, is this audio in the .avi file or has it previously been extracted or anything?

I downloaded one Divx file form the net and its in AVI format. I used TMPGEnc to make an MPG file out of it but exactly at 31% it gives this error "Write error occured at address 004872C2A of module 'TMPGENC.EXE' with 0078E000."

I dont know what to do please help me out.

dude,i know what ya said,..!
(am posting the results to my experimentation..so others in forum as well as you, cud hear wat happnd..so answers cud come come out fm anyone who knows..since i am shore others also hates those black borders and wanna do away with them..)

as for the audio prob,it is part of the same avi file and not seperately extracted.question is can it be related to what i did with clip frame..?(or audio and video issues cant be connected) and what shd i do?
cause org file .avi still plays fine with media player..

woooooooopppssss, Nik, maybe the clip frame did have something to do with it, perhaps tmpgenc was just trying to do too many things at once, unfortunately it could also just be that the volume changing messed up or something!!

wokay..wats the solution,,any idea.
The prob ccured with another file also..did clip frame and increased volume also ..since it was a divx file..had low volume.

incidentally..tried the kazaa codec pack one week back,,tis great,,didnt have a single prob since ..earlier 50% of my files used to be a prob,unfort..gspot wasnt able to help me much..nevr realyy told me clearly which codec was missing.

lol, gspot gives the exact name of the codec that was used!! lol

Why did you use clip frame on the new file?? I reckon, TMPGEnc just cant handle running too much at once!

regarding clip frame..well even new file had the black borders which take away half the screen.so ahd to try..

I have similar problems to many others. I can play all my avi files successfully on my PC both video and audio. When i use tmpgenc and i browse the video file the audio file is only automatically selected in about 50% of cases. If i use gspot it tells me that the appropriate audio codec is loaded. In virtualdub if i select the options suggested i get the following error with the 50% which fail. "No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format. Any ideas?

geez man i cant explain the low volume! Are you usre your sound is up full and i dont mean on the speakers but i mean is it up full volume on the computer in the vlume control settings?

Paulmc, sometimes virtualdub will look for audio decompressors even though you have them. I installed the Radium Mp3 Codec and never had a problem!

Dela thanks for your reply however it hasn't helped me. I am having huge problems with audio codec's. If i install certain ones required by certain avi's it screws up the audio content on others. Even when tmpgenc accepts the audio content when browsing the appropriate file it fails either to support the file or when you check the MPEG generated file it has no sound.
Can you suggest an audio codec that will sort out my problems? I never have problems with the video content. I am unable to create revised AVI's in virtual DUB because of this audio compression error mentioned previously. No matter what audio codec I sel;ect it fails 100% of the time in virtual DUB. Any ideas?
