To make matters even worse I am having huge problems with video codecs now. the current xvid codec makes my avi's look very dark. I need some advice as to what codecs to download for both audio and video. everyone I try just makes things worse. I still can't get the audio to work in the mpeg no matter what i try. Thanks.

Thats odd, the avis should have no problem opening in VirtualDUB. So what codecs have you installed?? any codec packs?

Dela,

I have been following your posts and have been having some success. All of the avi's that I have been downloading have converted (via TMPGEnc) to mpegs without problems, but the DivX avi's have been doing a couple of weird things. They have expanded from 800MB to 5Gig plus and there is no sound following the conversion. All of the DivX avi's have played fine on the Windows Media Player as avi's.

Any ideas??? Thanks.

In TMPGEnc click setting and click the advanced tab. then tick the box beside source range and then double click source range and then when it comes up click move to start frame and click set start frame and then click move to end frame and click set end frame!

Dela

The problem I have is that the avi's contain bad frames throughout and i can't watch it without some serious editing. Is there any particular reason why this should happen?

Did you download them or encode them yourself?? Well, if downloaded, look for avifixed and see if it will remove the bad frames for you!!

I've been converting files I received from ASF to AVI to MPG. While the ASF to AVI has been working fine, I'm having problems converting from AVI to MPG. I've been using TMPGEnc to convert the AVIs to VCD format, but about 1.5 minutes into each file I convert the sound cuts out. Before the sound dies, everything is going fine. Even after the sound dies, the rest of the video converts with no problems.

Any suggestions?

Try this

1. open the avi in virtualdub
2. click video - direct stream copy
3. click audio - full processing mode
4. click audio - compression, select no compression pcm and click ok
5. click file - save avi

try the avi you save with TMPGEnc!

Hi, i dont know if you guys touched this subject before or not, so my apologies in advance :).

After encoding my movie using Tmpgenc the file was of course huge and so i tried to merge and cut, but i couldn't (my fault not the programs) and so i used virtual dub, cut it in half, and then encoded it. is this a good idea? and i'm wondering, do i have to put all of my movies on two cds? also, i dont have a DVD player yet, so how do i check if everything is okay?

THanks in advance
Sherin

what operating system do you have Sherry? Windows 9x, 2000, xp ?? also, have you loaded aspi drivers, if not, find out what operating system you have and go here:

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverindex.html?sess=no&language=English+US

you will need to select your o/s and then download the latest aspi drivers.. this might help.

hey Dela, \
got a funny new problem with TMp ..all this while it was fine..was converting video..avi file.file size 694 Mb..duration 1.22 hrs ..G spot showed ..all fine-video codec-Div3 .576*320..audio codec.mp3..it siad file rendered sucessf...no errors..
but when i ran it thru Tmp..file size beacme 1.6 Gb (which happens normally) but funnlily length also doubled to 2.44 hrs which means after the film -there was a blank screen for 1.22 hrs...but most importantly..THERE WAS NO AUDIO for entire film..else would have used merge and cut ..
did it twice with same results..
Any idea?
