Hector Martin aka marcan42 has just posted to his blog the launch of AsbestOS, a way to run Linux on your jailbroken PS3 without OtherOS. Martin has been working on AsbestOS for over a month. "Other OS" was disabled by firmware version 3.21, and the latest Sony firmware update is version 3.50. And who wants to bet bext week Sony will completely disable the USB ports for the safety of their users from unauthorised content.

It won't matter if you have since a jailbroken PS3 since you can't update past 3.41 anyways.

the jailbreaks will come out with updates to override the new games so they will be able to be played. now that all 3 major systems have been hacked it will happen!

I don't know about anyone else but let one of us thank this person for taking linux back to the PS3 one more step forward. The ability use linux would be the only reason i would buy one.

When the PS3 is ripped open completely all these small projects will all come together.
