Hey guys, so this afternoon didn't go as I'd hoped. I have been about to run a VERY thorough test on the jtag quick solder boards, and they came back fine.

The guy I've been working with on this use to do electronic soldering for a living and he's confident the connections are good.

Now for the NAND part.

I started stripping down the old pin headers and getting ready for the direct to LTP connection when he insisted that we check the pin headers for conductivity. We've only been able to determine that there's no issues, but he doesn't want to try to trace all the connections across the board.........either do I.

I feel like I'm right in the middle, should I try to find the problems with the USB jobby, or strip down the jtag part and go just lpt

I know, MikeTrev.........lpt.

Thanks

Take my foolish advice, the way I see you getting your box going is with the Cygnos360. If your solder guy is a good as you say he is and you have been following the tutorial to the letter, your SPI is shot. I've been there and have been as frustrated as you are. Google the chip and have your friend look at all the soldering involved and see if he can get it done. Once the Cygnos is installed correctly you are done. they even have their own website where there is the install manual where you can see if its for you.
Thats my last piece of advice.

Just an update for MikeTrev:

Well I tore it all back to spec and rewired the nand section (left the usb quick solder board on from the nand-x) and hooked it up the the lpt port on an XP machine and no luck......

c:\nandpro20d>nandpro.exe lpt: -r16 orig.bin
NandPro v2.0 by Tiros

testing LPT device address:0378
testing LPT device address:0278
testing LPT device address:03BC
Could not detect a flash controller!
Can not continue

And for some reason I can't get the jTag Tool to boot, ha ha ha

Any ideas while I wait for the Cygnos to arrive?

aw Lord! I think I installed the resistors upsidedown!?

Should the gold stripe be the closest one to the board?

Resistors have no orientation but the diodes do though.

Did you go super short? Have you tried adding/removing the optional diode on the LPT side?

If not, we'll have to see how the Cygnos360 works sorry. I will be watching with interest as I have a xbox with the same problem, i though it must of been a broken track somewhere but I wasn't aware of the SPI controller young_one mentioned.

Good luck

Hey guys, well, here's the latest update.

I tried another computer and double-checked the wiring. I tested the wiring from just above the resistor to the lpt connector and got a signal on every one.

I double checked the wiring scheme on the DB25 itself, and it's in the right order.

The cables run about 8inches, and I've tried two different power bricks. I've tried with the A/V cable in AND out.

The only thing I haven't tried is the optional diode. I went without it since I switched everything back, and I haven't tried it without the resistors as some posts have mentioned.

I tried the coolshrimp jtag tool and through the cmd lines in Windows DOS.

The USB with the quick solder boards didn't work either.

I'm going to order the Cygnos today but don't expect to see it until after Christmas, so I wanted to say thanks for your help guys and keep your eyes open. We'll try this dance again after the Holidays!

Young_One

So the chip showed up (as you know) and tonight I started doing the solder work based on a YouTube video that I now think is wrong because it's different than the one shown in the guide: http://www.cygnos360.com/Downloads/Cygnos360V2_InstallationManual_V1.04.pdf

I assume I should use the InstallationManual xenon pic?

However that may not be the biggest problem.

My USB 'adaptor' doesn't seem to have an acutual on/off switch

http://www.quantronics.com.au/items/XBOX360-CYGNOS-V2.gif

Any thoughts? plugging it id doesn't give it power.

Nothing to worry about. The new version does not have the switch because the older version also had a NAND on the Cygnos. The switch was there so you can use the xbox NAND or the Cygnos NAND. You will power the Cygnos with the xbox 360 power just by plugging it in. No need to power the xbox on. For now just make sure all your points are well connected and feel free to ask any question. I'm here for the long haul.

Ok, got it hooked up and recognized by my laptop (running Win7)

Got this error, but was suspicious that the thing wasn't hooked up properly to begin with.

ERROR: Unknown NAND-flash device id 0x7E7E reported.
Please verify correct installation!

Makes sense right?

At the bottom of the Cygnos Toolbox it says

Status: Connected
Mode: Firmware
FW:1.04
FLASH: Xbox360

I don't think you'll find any clearer pics than in the manual. There are 3 points where I suggest you use a method I call a 'Trace Run'. A term I just coined. Run the wire to points PW RB X4 and then before you solder, tape the wire to the board so that there is no stress on that solder point due to the fact that these points are the most fragile as you will see. Don't forget to make as a perfect a ground on the copper side as possible.
Happy trails.

So I re-did the wiring according to the .pdf from the Cygnos site, and got this:

Error: Unknown NAND-flash device id 0xf7f7 reported
Please verify correct installation!

Does that code give anybody an idea of what exactly that means

I'm not exactly sure, but I'm guessing the PW. I hoped the code would tell me, but it seems like a general one for sodlering
