Infinity Ward apologizes for influx of hackers in PS3 versions of COD 4, MW 2

article published on 19 January, 2011

Just two weeks after Geohot revealed the PlayStation 3 root key to the world, developer Infinity Ward has apologized to Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 gamers affected by the influx of hackers playing on public servers. Geohot revealed the key and just recently created a custom v3.55 firmware which allows for homebrew and Linux to be run on the latest Sony PS3 firmware. While the ... [ read the full article ]

Bet they are going nuts having not had to worry much about this in the past. Prob have to hire people that know how to detect and deal with cheating. On the other hand if they are waiting for Sony to undo it all I think that ship has sailed....

They still don't care about cheaters...if they did, then they would have done something about the 360 and PC versions long ago. All they care about is the fact that they could potentially loose sales.

I still tired of server issues with the PS3 and Black ops. How many times do I have to lose connection with host server or migrate to another server.

How come SOCOM made you have an original copy of the disc for PS2 to play online, unless I was to ignorant and did not know where to look?

Umm... this was happening long before the key got out and they didn't care a whole lot then. Supporting your game after release instead of borderline abandoning it does wonders! (Map packs don't count as support).

Yeah, they seem to have found a convenience scapegoat instead of addressing the truth. That's Activision for ya!

I agree for not supporting before the release of the code, but it would appear the server having more issues.

How can you tell? The online was always crap, and that was before Activision started switching the servers to other games.

blockbuster, gamefly, and other rental services sell old games. If I buy MW2 after it has been to a few hundred houses, and it was pirated by a few of those people, that game now belongs to me. If I choose to put it on my hard drive, that should be my choice. If it shows up as having the same ID key as the copies pirated by others from the same disk, I should not be penalized for their actions. I bet they would claim this was a case where the game was stolen from the internet...but the game would not have been downloaded from the internet by any of the pirates, and it would not be stolen at all for me (because I own the disk).

You would need to give them the disk serial number and hope they fix it but that would be them helping the community not watching their bank accounts.

This goes across all gaming as it is i quit XBL just then because the frame rate dropped 10 fold and impossible for clean play. Across several game for hours and also affecting the users i was playing with.

No company gives a dam about it's customers after they have given them money, this includes Microsft and of course EA games but lots of other companys are following suit as the battle is too much for them. They are out numbered and would cost them too much to regulate it to the way we want it.

It is all ways about money not quality.

I would love to hear a statement about that from the big developers as why they do not regulate their products.

Modders who use hack software should be banned and blocked from the internet. There is no failsafe because reverse engineers would just rip it out and continue on.

I think it is time for the Encryption Chip that has been floating around last few years. We need to take the next generation to the next level otherwise they will fail again and the community will own them once more.

In the future we plan to adjust our approach to not rely solely on platform security and reduce the ability for this to happen in our games, as has already been displayed by the work Treyarch has done on Call of Duty: Black Ops to prevent similar measures.
That's the first time I've seen Infinity Ward talking some sense for the last year.

360 version still has glitches that has not been fixed that screwed the leaderboards for zombies which won't be fixed either.

People can still get on top of the skyboxes and disrupt the way path. If the way path was altered to not detect such things or even making the skyboxes that 10px bigger we may see a improvement in the game.

Other then that i still have no faith in gaming regulation

Sigh, it really come down to this? If you can't win, you cheat? Oh wait, it has been like this since beginning of civilization, lol. Hmmm, isn't it more satisfying to know that you played the game without cheating and you did your best? I guess not, everybody is on the edge now a day, isn't video game a recreational hobby? You know, something supposed to release stress, not creating more stress? But yeah, artificially buffing stats sucks.

Peace!

Activision is just a publisher, its Infinity Ward that should support there product.
