PS2 Backups on CFW?

I was wondering if i can play my PS2 backups on my PS3 40GB thats not backwards compatible on any of the Custom firmwares? I really wanted to play Dragon Quest VIII again

I think there is but it requires you making some physical modifications to your PS3. I believe KillerBug may have posted something on it but I could be wrong.

I did that method a while back. It was slow pretty slow since with was limited to USB 1.1 like the PS2 instead of USB 2.0. Is it still slow like that on CFW?

I am guessing its the same because i doubt the CFW has changed anything when it comes to backwards compatibility.
