Lighter, more efficient PS3 coming soon

article published on 20 June, 2011

Although unconfirmed by Sony, it appears an updated model of the PS3, CECH-3000B, is coming soon. The CECH-3000B will cut power consumption to 200W from 230W and slash weight to 5.73 lbs from 6.6 lbs. Sony's updated console will still have a 320GB HDD, remove LED lamps and include "external changes to the power and eject buttons," says Andriasang. It is unclear what those changes are, however. ... [ read the full article ]

It sounds like they finally have a model that won't YLOD...because there is no LED to turn yellow!

BTW...there is a rumor that PS2 game support is coming back. It is anyone's guess if it is true...but the Sony website seems to confirm it (not that you can believe anything Sony says).

And I carry my PS3 everywhere because you know it's the newest thing in portability... WTF!?!

Other than shelling out the bucks for the extended warranty my slim 120 blew the power supply about 2 weeks ago. Not like that wasn't coming, right? How long before that new, lighter PS goes out too? And no LEDs = no ability to self diagnose your own problems when the thing goes out of warranty either.

I'm smelling cat on the grill again guys. Not to mention echoing hikaricor in that the purchase price is gong to be next to both testicles (keeping it clinical for Oner, got busted for profanity).

Profits go down, rise in legalized sodomy go up. It's been the corporate model since 1979 folks.

I read that the rumour is not true, I highly doubt they would added anything new onto the system.

Given that sony has release only one major revision to their systems in the past, I can't really see this being true.

biglo is correct. This new PS3 is NOT BC compatible. It was a Google translate error.

So much for the only reason to buy one!

...Not that I would have...I don't buy from Sony anymore, and even if I did, I wouldn't buy something that looks like the 1st-gen Nintendo Wii.
