I am new to DVD copying and read the forums and downloaded DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink,I have a Plextor 712A and have Nero 6, so I set everything up as specified as per your instructions and when using Shrink for the first movie I have tried this message comes up=

'DVD Shrink encountered an error and can not continue.
Failed to write'VT_01_4VOB'

Someone please help, what am I doing wrong?

Al

That is usually a sign of a bad spot on a disc. Is it happening on every disc you have tried or just the one?

Yes, I know I am a smart ass!

So far I have tried three movies and they go to that message everytime I use the shrink.

I run FAT32 will that cause a problem and if so what else can I do, but I don't think it is that.
I want to copy so much.....ehhhh

Do you have to shrink all movies?

Only the ones on dual layer dvd's. (DVD-9's) I have found DVD Shrink to be wonderful. I would try re-installing it. What type of blank media are you using?

Have you tried bypassing Decryptor and starting with DVDShrink?

But the shrink is where the problem arises, when I try to shrink the movie to fit on a DVD.

I am using Philips DVD-R but I can't even get to burning because it goes to that message error when shrinking(compressing) the movie.

Excuse me for being dopey....LOL, but when you ask for set up what do you mean, what kind of computer or?

It decrypts with no problem then when going to compressing it hates me.

Sorry I am a newbie idiot.

Shouldn't be any problem with your set-up. Try un-install and re-install. If necessary, download again.

I have found a movie or two that the latest version of Shrink wouldn't work right with. The older versions such as V2.3 or V3.0b5 seemed to work O.K. You have to burn manually with these versions, but sometimes they come in handy. Old versions can be found at http://mrbass.org/dvdshrink/dvdshrinkold/ . Hope this helped.

You will get this error if you are using DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to write ISO Disc Image files on a FAT 32 Hard Disk Drive. There is a 4GB limit on file sizes on FAT 32 and ISO Disc Images are usually bigger than that. If you use Shrink in file mode you will not have this problem.

Windows XP/2000/NT can use NTFS, FAT 32 or FAT file systems.
Windows 98/ME can only use FAT 32 or FAT file systems.

Versions of Windows that can use NTFS have a built in converter or you can use Partition Magic.

One of the biggest problems when people make a upgrade from Win98-ME to WinXP is they skip the part at the beginning where there is the option to convert their drives from FAT or FAT32 to NTFS before installing WinXP.

NTFS file system is what you should be using on XP.
The only reason to continue to use a FAT or FAT32 file system is if you are also running another OS like Win98-ME or Linux on that computer.

Even after installing WinXP you can convert your FAT or FAT 32 drives to NTFS.
Open Help and Support and search for Convert NTFS to get complete directions.
Example:
Click Start - Run and type.
Convert C: /FS:NTFS

Before you make the conversion to NTFS.
It is a good idea to both defragment the drive and run a error check fixing both file system errors and recovery of bad sectors.
Right click on your drive and select Properties and these options are on the Tools tab.

That definitely sounds like it could be a media problem. What is your media? Let's check it out 1st. You can download a little program called dvd infopro, it's free and can be found in this forum. Now, what method are you using to rip and burn? Are you using shrink to rip or decrypter. The rule of thumb is let shrink rip, if it can't(it's not %100 at ripping) then use decrypter. If using shrink open disc, if decrypter, you will rip and in shrink you will open files. Since you have nero, set it as your burner ie.-open shrink>edit>preferences>fileI/O, finally @ the bottom left, check enable burn w/Nero.There is an excellent guide at http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm. for using shrink. Is this the way you're doing it? If it is, again I think it could be your media. The prefferred media in this forum is Verbatim and RitekG04(make sure it's branded). You can get the latter at meritline for >69->71ea./100 with free shipping. Well, i didn't see your post when I wrote this, since you got it working great, if it screws up again, then you can read my post. lol
