I'm in a fog, that's what I told omegand- , shrink and decrypter or shrink and Nero, but shrink can't burn, are you confirming what I said? I don't think he understood me and now you don't? Please tell me I haven't been totally misunderstood on the most basic of backups. For the record, SHRINK CAN'T BURN!

Correct, Shrink can not burn by itself. You can however use decrypter to burn after using shrink if you don't want to buy anything. This is the CAB way (CAB = cheap ass bastard) ;0)

Visit us at www.dvdhounds.com for all of your DVD needs and discussions. It's a fun new site that could use your support. Everyone is welcome!

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH! you're killin' me, that's what i said to begin with, right? Seriously, that is exactly what I started out with, and used with few problems early in my backup career. For freeware they are tops, but compared to some you can buy.....

I am probably using incorrect terminology. I am quite new this video thing and I'm sorry if I confused anyone.

I do have some mpeg files that are not copyrighted and I have encountered problems with sound sync when burning them to DVD.

Again, I recommend nerovision express where you can convert to dvd and create a menu with chapters. I highly recommend purchasing Nero ultra 6, which will have evreything you need and is a great software, especially for someone starting out. Costs 49.00 at eagletronics

Folks, So what your saying is Shrink doesn't burn :))) Sorry, got that from Fletch. I am aware of that. I am just distinguishing from using two separate applications at the same time.

I do have one thing to note here. Are we all kidding ourselves???? ForknDave.....All these apps are for legal purposes??..... You know, I will say this straight out. I have a Clarion DVD Player in my wife's car. I do NOT want the original cases (cheap plastic mind you) and the DVD's being left in the car so I COPY THEM....OH OH...Am I now in trouble now???? Sorry, I believe as consumers we still have this right. In other words, I am a believer that I can copy DVD's for my PERSONAL use as a backup. If I want a good DVD I spend the $15. But come on folks, if anyone on this forum believes that these apps where created solely for backup purposes I think we are lying to ourselves.

If I get booted for speaking my mind so be it. Last I can remember Freedom of speech is still a constitutional right this country. Also, I still want to thank everyone up front for all the information shared and also to remember that when the information is not to everyone's liking. Freedom folks.

Kudos to all.

I am new to this DVD burning thing but I have a question. First, let me say I've successfully burned a DVD using DVD43 and I Burn DVDs 2. But I have 2 rom drives. One drive plays DVD's and the other burns DVD's. How do I burn from one drive to the other therefore skipping the downloading to my HD altogether? I also have Sonic DVD burner software which would let me do it but it doesn't seem to work. HELP????? Thanks.

You are talking about burning "on the fly". You already have the tool for it. DVD43, or you can use Anydvd or DVDregion free. All will work using this method. That is to say they de-encrypt the movie( or rip) for you enabling you to read from one drive and choosing your destination to the other drive instead of the HD to burn. I used to burn on the fly with Nero's recode a lot, but it will work with other apps. As far as sonic, don't like it, so don't know it. I know with Record Now you just pick 1st drive to read and 2nd to burn under exact copy, but I don't know about re-authoring or compression in Sonic, which must be done if the disc you're copying is over 4.3.

Help

Recently I had to reboot my computer and I lost all of my "DVD backing up software" and I completly forgot what I was using to back them up. From what I remember all i needed was DVD Decrypter to create a .iso damoen tools to mount the iso, which I completly forgot how to do, and take the file straight from there and put it into DVD Shrink. I also remebered creating a VideoTS and AudioTS folder. I have Nero installed as well as IMGtool but i never thought I needed those. Any help would be awesome

Rip with shrink and in cases it won't, use decrypter to rip., author and compress with shrink, burn with decrypter or nero. You can set the burn up in shrink, and it will do it auto(the burn that is). Here is a guide for shrink and it will show you how to use nero as the default burner. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm

With Nero 6 installed I have had no problem ripping with Decrypter and composing and burning with Shrink. Again, this works great with only with Nero 6 installed.

Hi:

Can I convert my partitioned drive to NTSF from Fat 32 with all of my programs and data already on it. What else could I do to make this work, would an external drive work? If so how do I do that?

TIA

What OS do you have now? If you have XP already you can change over. There is big Hoopla in the IT industry which I reside in of which is better - NTFS or FAT32. If you were to say FAT32 in our house here you would be scolded, so scold me. NTFS is said to be faster, safer...hmmm to much controversy on that, although I must say I prefer NTFS. All in all, if you change over you are essentially changing over the file structure and many of you apps may not work. Better off backing up data and doing a clean install of the OS.

pkoontz, if you're going to do video, you need NTFS, FAT32 will not handle files over 4g's, while NTFS will handle 'em up to 10g's. You could add an external drive and convert it over to NTFS(it will come formatted as FAT32 in all likelihood), or you could partition your exising one. Western Digital makes an excellent external drive anywhere from 80g's/8mb up to 200g's/8mb. Buy.com has them on sale right now, and newegg.com usually has good prices. Both have free shipping.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, I have my 200 Gig partitioned into 4 drives, I have converted my F drive over. Worked great! Now one really big hurdle to get over. I have made my very first backup, it plays in my Apex stand alone, but does not want to play in my DVD player on my puter, Am I doing something wrong? Please help, I am so excited that this has finally worked for me, after reading numerous threads, I think I've finally got it. My husband bought me xcopy platinum for a premium price I might add, but the box has not been opened, thinking about ebaying it now. Don't really need it huh?
I am using Ritek G04 -R media, shouldn't that play in any player. If not what do I need to get and where?
This granny is VERY happy!
Thanks A Million

And note this as an FYI...
The size limit using the FAT16 file system
under Windows NT or 2K is 4 GB ...

jonijon, if you're burning on the fly you wouldn't have to worry about the 4 gig limit. You only need a temp folder to work out of cos you're going straight from the source dvd to the burner. If you're using a DVD5 you would be OK. When you come to a DVD9 and you needed to write to the HD to re-author, edit, etc. or you're using a prog like rebuilder/cce then you'd know you need it. Rebuilder/cce can use up to 15g's total space easy to backup a dvd. pkoontz,Your media is fine, stick with it. ebay your copy, get a prog like Pinnacle's InstantCopy 8, or Intervideo's DVDCopy2, or even Nero Ultra 6. Three of the best in my book. BTW, what did you use to burn your backup? What PC software dvd player are you using?

Bigorange:

Thanks for responding re: my media. I will ebay my DVD Xcopy Platinum (don?t need it now, huh?) I do have Nero Ultra 6 on my computer, but haven?t used it yet, been following the info posted here. I used Shrink and Decrypter, that?s all.

My player is an Artec 16x, (in the puter). My burner is LG 4040B but can?t find my paperwork on it so don?t even have or know the specs. My home stand alone player is one of the cheapest you can buy, it?s an Apex AD-1500, think I paid about $30.00 for it. It plays almost anything I put in it.

The software I have in my puter is Power DVD that came with my burner. Now my question is this. One of my programs won?t work in my puter player with Power DVD, but it does run on another computer with the same program. What?s up with that? Is there an upgrade to the Power DVD software?

Thanks for all of your kind help, it really is appreciated

You really need to try recode in Ultra 6, it works almost exactly like shrink, but retains menu function after re-authoring and has a little better pic quality, Nero also has a great dvd cover designer in there. Not to mention nerovision express which handles file conversion and menu design for those home videos, etc. Here's a quickie guide on recode, it's about 3/4 of the way down. I promise once you use it, you won't go back(even your burn is done from there). As far as your dvd player goes, believe it or not, the cheaper ones tend to have less problems with backups than the higher priced ones, go figure. I don't know of a power dvd upgrade, doesn't mean there isn't one. I woukd have to have more info on that "other" prog before I could comment on that. Good luck on recode!

If you have Power DVD 4, the latest version of it can be found at http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/download_utility.htm . Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see it. It's probably no different than what you have, but it won't hurt to try.

Guys,

Can you sell DVD X Copy Platinum? Will the buyer be able to activate it with 3-2-1's funky registration?
